An odd fear...?

I'm sorry for once again being an attention whore, but I have a strage fear I can't live with, I've tackled this fear, head on, a few times, but I end up real freaked out for a few days.
That fear, is corpses.

In the three cases i've encountered, all have been faces, all have scared me, alot. One was that lady from the Scientology Google Bomb, one was from the 1960 version of Disney World's ride "The Haunted Mansion", and the other was from the 40's of a 13 year old african american who was killed.

All these encounters leave me shaking for about 10 minutes, and unable to sleep for days.
I'm tired of being a wuss. And i'd like some advice on how to overcome my fear.

Please help?

Aye, I don't like going to open casket funerals . Last one I went to the grandma was rubbing her face on the corpse. Now I don't get freaked out easily, but that sight will stay with me forever .
I don't really have any advice to help you get over your fear, my best guess would be that it'll eventually fade over time. I know that's not very encouraging, but hang in there .

What scared me even more was when I was down in florida. My uncle had killed a boar in the day that started to charge the campsite. Anyway he through it in the forest. Then before we went to bed in the tent we went to poke the boar with a stick because the campground was really boring but the corpse wasn't there and we thought one of the kids took it. So we went to bed and didn't ecpect anything to happen. My uncle thought it would be funny to put it in there while we were asleep. He put it right next to one of my cusins mooching friends. What scared me was his screams of terror. I was sleeping and I had to wake up to a 15 year old screaming like a 5 year old girl. It was hilarious and we laughed while he cryed. Okey that didn't really scare me but I thought I'd tell you of him being scared.

But about your problem. Watch alot of action movies. Horror movies usally make it worse. Lot's of R rated action movies I would say. Like Blade or some other gory action movie. Thats what I do if it gets bad and look at me today!

Wow. Shaking for minutes and unable to sleep, just at the mere sight of a corpse? That's not just a fear, that's more like a phobia. Nuthin' to be ashamed of or anything, though. Did you have any traumatizing experiences when you were younger?

Hm. Well, I don't really know how to overcome this fear. Thinking 'happy' thoughts might help, I suppose. Surround yourself in a peaceful environment, play music you like, watch movies you love... just anything to take your mind offa corpses. Leave the nightlight on if it'll help, even.

I wouldn't suggest looking for as many as you can, because that'd only screw you up more in your current state of mind. The fear might go away when get older. Probably will.

Don't feel bad or embarrassed about this. It doesn't sound like you're being a wuss or wimpy... something in your mind just causes you to be extremely frightened of corpses, more than most people. Like BB said, it sounds like you have a phobia or something. It sounds like it's really bothering you.

I wish I knew how to help. Like others have said, the fear will probably fade over time. But talking about it, like you are now, will probably help a lot too. We all have fears. It's nothing to be ashamed of. It's good to get them out in the open

I'm afraid I don't have an really useful advice for you MewChan, except that your fear's intensity will likely diminish over time.

I would say to look at as many pictures of corpses as you can, to make those images seem easier and not as frightening, but then again that could only make the problem worse.

Just remember as bad as those things are they're only images.

You see mewchan, everyones afraid of something. I for example am scared of two things: Zombie Mansions (Real ones, not video game or amusement park ones. Those are fake as) And little children with ballons. lts just that little children like to put their mouths on ballons and zombies like to put their mouth o- I probably shouldnt be talking about this, just remembering your fear. But anyway, itll go away.

Being short, now THAT wont go away (poor me? I dont care)

What do you value? Are you afraid to be a corpse? Do you value your image so much that to appear as a corpse has you terrified? You value your appearance so much that you can't stand to be a corpse one day. Find other things about yourself that are of value other than you physical appearance.
Just a thought!

I-I don't think that's actually what she's afraid of, Lantern-baby. Y'know... since she didn't actually say it was, and all.

I don't think you're in any way a wuss because of this, Mewchan. It's quite a common fear, I'd imagine. Death isn't really something very many people are comfortable with - so seeing a corpse can be hard for anyone to handle. If you're shaking afterwards, it's likely you've developed a phobia of corpses, yes... but I'd say the best and probably only realistic thing you can do is to give it time. It isn't as though you'll come across a cadavre all that regularly anyway.

I do want to make it clear that I do not think anyone is a wuss. Everyone has fears. Fears come in many forms. Perhaps my view is way off. Perhaps it is just a fear of the unknown. Perhaps you just fear experiencing death? I do believe that fear is an unwillingess to experience. We fear what we don't want to feel. We fear what we don't want to experience. Perhaps it is not appearing as a corpse that you fear. Perhaps it is being one. However, you cannot be a corpse. You will not be there. YOu will not know it. Your mind will cease to be and so will all consciousness.
I don't know just offering an opinion. HOwever, I don't think anyone is a wuss. Like I said before, we all have fears.
This much I do know--All is temporary. Fears die, too.

Just think MewChan, it could be a lot worse... You could be afraid of little things like birds, mustard, pickles, or balloons like these people.

I googled some stuff:

"What is Corpse Fear/Phobia?
Defined as "death or dead things", each year this surprisingly common phobia causes countless people needless distress.

To add insult to an already distressing condition, most corpse fear therapies take months or years and sometimes even require the patient to be exposed repeatedly to their fear. We believe that not only is this totally unnecessary, it will often make the condition worse. And it is particularly cruel as corpse fear can be eliminated with the right methods and just 24 hours of commitment by the phobic individual.

Known by a number of names - Necrophobia, Fear of Death, and Fear of Dead Things being the most common - the problem often significantly impacts the quality of life. It can cause panic attacks and keep people apart from loved ones and business associates. Symptoms typically include shortness of breath, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and overall feelings of dread, although everyone experiences corpse fear in their own way and may have different symptoms."

Then only look at the corpses of people who died from decapitation.
