Nintendo shuts down wifi on May 20th

As of May 20th, you will no longer be able to have wifi connectivity on DS, DSi, or Wii systems. No Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Pokémon, none o' that. How does this make you feel? How does it affect you?

So that they can use that space for Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. Nothing stays online forever.

Because it's last gen. Companies don't hold wifi going forever. You haven't been able to play original Xbox games online for quite a while, for example. It just seems a bit early for the shutdown because most people still own and use last gen Nintendo gear. Not a whole lot of people have migrated to Wii U yet, and I have a bad feeling that that's exactly why Nintendo is discontinuing wifi services a bit early.

This is the real reason. People just aren't buying the Wii U, and I bet that they are hoping that this combined with Super Smash Bros. U and Mario Karty 8 will finally get people to jump on the Wii U bandwagon. Honestly though, I don't know how Nintendo *****ed up their online system this badly.

But it's easier to re-purpose servers then buy new ones. And also like everyone said they are trying to push people towards the WiiU and 3DS by shutting them down.

I just really hope Smash's online will actually be good this time around. Mario Kart Wii's was perfect, add the customization that the 3DS version had and other tweaks and MKU will be my favorite of the series. The only thing that could make it better in my eyes is if it did have its own level editor that was rumored a while ago. But if that were true Nintendo would be advertising it like crazy

Also, this was going to happen eventually after the release of Nintendo Network.
Sad to see it go.
