Possible Discovery? Hm?
I was playing Banjo Kazooie a couple of hours ago and I noticed that Rare used the exact same texture on a lot of terrains, but colored slightly different each time. It's like a grainy, 3-d looking flat rock texture. Used a lot throughout the game as a ground texture. Similar looking to the texture on Bottles' dirt-pile. Was Rare lazy or something?
Anywho, the discovery...well, it's not much of a discovery...but, in Fungi Forest iN DK64, at the start of the course, where the apple-in-the-worm is, the ground texture used is the same as the one in BK. Coincidence? I'm not sure if it is used elsehwere in DK. I'll have to look. AND!!!!! The music in Fungi Forest seems to be A LOT more BKish than DKish. It is far more peaceful and mystical than the others in DK64/ Just noticing these...

For the texture of terrains, I think Rare was simply lazy.
For your discovery, I personally think that Fungi Forest was originally planned for BK but was replaced by Clic Clock Wood. And they look a little alike if you think about it. First, there is a giant mushroom In DK. In BK, there is a giant tree. In BK, there are four seasons, In DK, there are four areas that looks like seasons connected by the center. |

Come to think of it, yeah. And I noticed this. You know the noise that it makes in Banjo Kazooie when you are around Bees? Not exactly buzzing, but sounds a lot more like light humming? (To hear it, go near those bee-hive-houses with eyes that you break open for honeycombs...the ones that have bees swarming around them)
Well, even though there are no such creatures like that in Fungi Forest iN DK64 (except for a Wasp that drops explosive things, but he makes a droning buzz), you can hear the bee noise from BK in the background! Try standing towards the center mushroom and tilting the camera around. You can slightly hear it in the background!

What you said is true, I'm too lazy to check that but I think I heard that when I was playing yesterday.

also in mumbo's hut in ccw there are mushrooms hanging from the ceiling just like the ones you have to shoot at the entrance of FF

This might seem kind of stupid, but I think that even though "Fungi Forest" was featured in DK64, it still might be in BK. I mean, Banjo was created first and Rare might have put FF into it as a secret level, but after realizing it that the players weren't finding such a level (primarily because they'd made it so brain-bogglingly impossible to do so), they remodeled it to fit DK so that their design didn't go to waste. Just a thought.
Now for something a bit more intelligent: it's easy to see how FF might have been intended for BK. First and foremost, there is a lot more character interaction in that level (racing the rabbit is nearly identical to racing Boggy, down to the flagpoles and the increased-speed rematch), and that is featured more prominently in the Banjo games than in DK64. Just compare it to "Jungle Japes," a real DK-style world, and you'll see the obvious difference. Secondly, after featuring such motifs as "hot/cold" and "four seasons" worlds in BK, it's easy to imagine "day/night" amongst the Banjo repertoire. PS: try "Crystal Caves" for peaceful and mystical music.

There isn't enough memory space for Fungus Forest to be in BK. It only holds 64 megs.

I always try to point out similar things from BK/DK, too.
Personally, I am a very busy person, and have LOTS of things going on (like everyone else). I do things at work, at home, at church, and at school, but each of these things has my certain trademark. Whenever someone looks at something that I've done, they can say with certainty, "dmoss did this!" Everything has a bit of something extra, hinting to the fact that I created it. I might sing one way at church, and sound nearly the same at school, but neither is in anyway connected to the other.I think this is a good example for explaining the major similarities between BK/DK. Each one may look similar, and we can say, "Rareware did this!" But, that doesn't necessarily mean that it was meant to be connected, right? We could make a list that would stretch a mile of things that are similar between the games, and still find nothing of significance. Some examples: "Stop 'n' Swop" & "Scoff 'n' Troff"; Stop 'n' Swop Eggs & DK character colors. Don't be discouraged, though! I'm glad that you're thinking! ![]()

Anyway, I agree with dmoss. "If at firs you fail... try again, you will prevail."

Why do you think they CALLED it the N64? 64 meg carts. I think. Someone correct me.

I think the '64' was because it was Nintendo's first 64-bit console. That's what I heard, anyway.

That's what I thought at first too. I thought I read about 64 meg carts somewhere though...
