Post Remembrance: Five Years Ago

We never know when we, too, will be called into eternity. I doubt if even one of those people who got on those planes, or walked into the World Trade Center or the Pentagon that morning thought it would be the last day of their lives.
-Dr. Billy Graham

September 11, 2001, a day now etched in history. Thousands lost their lives when two planes were crashed into New York's World Trade Center, another into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and a fourth, headed for Washington D.C., fell short in a Pennsylvania field.

Just as the senseless attacks destroyed buildings and our feelings of security, they also threatened our concept of a loving God. We are led to ask the question, Where was God in those critical moments that meant the difference between life and death for so many? He was there. He was with those who lived and those who died, hearing every prayer. He felt the anguish of every person suffering in confused darkness and silence.

911 Remembrance

I'm going to throw this entire thread in to chaos with my simple opinion right off the bat: People make too big of a deal out of 9/11. If we made a holiday for EVERYTIME a couple thousand people died, we'd be celebrating something constantly. It was a tragic event, but I don't think it was a mainstay that needs rehashed for the rest of eternity.

I don't think anyone made the anniversary of Pearl Harbor or the LZ 129 Hindenburg accident (although a German event, so picked because of the tragedy involved) a "holiday". It doesn't have to be a holiday, I guess, just remembrance. No I don't mean watching old video, I mean just thinking.

I guess my point is just: It's only because it was recent that people speak of it so often.

Who did you lose?

Nope.

And I bet if you lost somebody in the hundreds of other large accidents, you'd feel different. So that can go around .

I agree... I just don't really care anymore. Sure, it was sad the first year, and a bit of the the second, but now it's just getting pointless. No crying over spilt milk, as the saying goes.

Think of it: thousands of people die every day: Do you see people making a holiday every single day? It's not a big deal.

I didn't lose anyone, but many of my friends did, and I still don't really care.

No, I'm not heartless.

Oh, September Eleventh...

I don't entirely agree with Grey, but I still think that the press have milked it too far. This whole topic bothers me. Remembering it and getting all tear-eyed about the disaster only puts smiles on the faces of Al Qaeda, but not caring about the event not only makes one appear heartless to the public eye, but ignoring it could also have bin Laden and his flunkies throwing out more destruction until they really catch the attention.

In short, terrorists are dicks.

I agree. At first it was an important event that everyone cared about, but now I'm starting to get sick of the way it's always being written about somewhere. They even made a movie about it ... it's turning into just another excuse to make money. We all get it, it was a horrible thing to happen and it was truly tragic at first, but do we REALLY need to be reminded of it with multi-million-dollar hi-res special effects?! Most of the time one would try to suppress memories of stuff like this ... I think ...

Coming soon ... 9/11: The Video Game! (Not really ... but I wouldn't be surprised if there did end up being a game based on it. I most likely wouldn't buy it, though.)

All that anyone really needs to do to make the day meaningful is maybe fly a flag at half-mast and have a moment of silence at some point ...

I disagree with Grey Jinjo...

...on most occasions; including this one.

One of my parents', and my family's, best friends. She worked right next to the buildings, and was killed during the collapse of the South Tower.

It's not a holiday; it's just rememberence. Nobady took off work, and frankly, the press milks EVERYTHING to death. And if you don't want to take 5 minutes out of your da to pay to rememberence to people who went in and sacraficed their lives to save people from a burning buildings, to remember a day that completely made it threw our security system, that thousands of people died for no reason, then I have to say: **** you.

In fact, I don't think 9/11 gets enough attention. The government has left so many questions open, it's downright suspicious and scary. I'd like to see the investigation of 9/11 re-opened personally so that the true faces of whoever did this heinous act are one day brought to justice. The people who needlessly died deserve it.
