Gamer Classifcations
*After reading this article vote what kind of gamer you are*
Whether you're the all-star nerd gamer demolishing your foes with a level 100 Charmander, or whether you're the average gangster with an IQ of 75 and play nothing but Vice City, we're all gamers here. The question is, what kind are you? Class#1: Old Skool Gamers - Live way too much in the past. Always playing their SNES and NES even when they have a $3,000 PC and/or an Xbox/GC/PS2. These guys can usually be found in their 20's wearing stained T-shirts and sitting next to their retro entertainment systems. Although, some younger old skoolers can be found. Class#2: All-Around-All-Star Gamer - These guys tend to play pretty much every thing but sports games. Not only do they play everything, but they rule everything. They can whoop you one way or another, and they rarely loose. These kids are usually about 10-17ish. Usually they're dorks, there's no nice way to put it. But in the video game world, they are king. Class#3: Pothead Gamers - Yeah this is your typical GTA, Halo, Madden, and NBA Street gamer. You will find usually only these games in their library, although it's not rare to see Need for Speed: Underground. These guys range from goths, to skaters, to gangstas, and to college kids too poor to afford more than 4 games. Class#4: Average Gamer - Plays a mix of everything. Usually ranges from the 4 year old to the 80 year old granny. Most of these folks are good at games but they usually get whooped when they step up to play Goldeneye at their local Wal-Mart. Class#5: Ah yes, perhaps the most annoying gamer out there. You know those guys who refuse to play anything but RPG's and strategy games? Yeah it's those guys. Usually the same age range as Class#2. Only difference is these guys litterally draw out blueprints for RPG's. When asked to play a good shooter however, they whip out a GB and start hacking away at Golden Sun for the next 12 hours... I hope I haven't been too biased on any of the stereo types. I think I was pretty hard on all of them. YAY! Yes, well get on with the voting. Tell me if you think I left anything out.

I guess I'd have to consider myself old school :/
N64 and Goldeneye all the way. None of the new systems can possibly compare to the N64 ever. I play N64 a lot more than GameCube. Enjoy SNES once in a while, a bout of Contra or Turtles in Time or Final Fight or UN Squadron. |

I'm an All-Around-All-Star Gamer. Any game I play I can get good at... usually pretty quickly too.

To you, Goldeneye might as well be a body part. But, you know, it is just that good of a game ![]() Actually, I'm bit of the same. The only game that's been in my N64 these days are Goldeneye/Perfect Dark. That, and Icy can vouch for the fact that I'm addicted to Alien Conflict and its background beat... ![]() Good ol' Graeme Norgate ![]()

Heh, I'm an All-Around-All-Star Gamer, I guess. I'm only 13, and I like to play stuff from all over the place. Usually FF, but I love other things like the Banjo series, Spyro, Sonic, and a lot of others. I like to play older games, too... Super Mario Bros. 3 is still one of my favorties.
I want to dig up my old collection of NES stuff and play them again... there were a lot of good games in there. Also, every single guy in my 8th grade class is a Pothead gamer. They just won't shut up about Halo... serious...

I'm an all-around gamer, which is mostly due to my childhood. When I was a kid, I just picked random games that looked interesting reguardless of what they were. I saw a cool hedgehog looking thing and picked up Sonic. I saw a cool ninja looking thing and picked up Mortal Kombat. I saw a cool little robot dude and picked up Megaman X.
Then years later when I was slightly older I saw Diddy Kong Racing and got it just because it had Diddy Kong in it, unaware that it was even a racing game reguardless of the name. This introduced me to the Fantasy Racing Genre. I've ended up playing alot of different game types just through confusion and child-like stupidity. As far as skill goes, I credit my lack of a life as a child. I played Sonic the Hedgehog when I was around 4 years old for 8 hours every day. It got to the point where I could collect almost every ring and beat the entire game without ever getting hit. Not because I was particulary good, just because when you do the same exact thing that many times you get used to the pattern and can get it down pretty good. However I'm pretty sure this and the other games I've gotten afterwards for Sega and SNES at the time drilled my hand-eye coordination pretty hard, and the more games I was exposed to the more it developed. I am pretty much escalated to a point where, at the moment, not many games seem that hard to complete and I find myself forced to find online competitions like the Perfect Dark Elite, and several other top score lists. However, I still get destroyed at Resident Evil type games and non-fantasy driving games for some reason . That Resident Evil series has forced me to get so many Action Replays and Game Sharks >_>... |

Darn! You guys are way to confident! 50% of you consider yourselves all-stars. I say we wait until the GC has better online capabilities and then you guys can duke it out. We'll see who the real winner is.
Nope, I'm not saying it's gonna be me. I'm not all that great at video games, compared to some people.

You missed a particularly annoying and common brand of gamer. The fanboy gamer.
![]() I'll say average. I'm like a meshing together of a couple of the categories. I love playing RPGs a lot. They suck up my time in an instant as I play them for hours trying to do everything. I love Adventure and Platform game. I've never really been into many pure action games or FPSs except for certain exceptions and I NEVER go for the "thug" games like GTA. I don't play sports or racing games at all. I don't really know how good I would be considered in most games since I have nothing to compare it to. I think I'm pretty good. I don't really have a hard time with most games. I've been really disappointed in this generation of games, so I've had more fun discovering some older games that I haven't played before. I don't consider myself "Oldschool" since I include N64 and PlayStation in that and I don't consider either of those platforms to be "OldSchool." Also, I still have fun with newer games, it's just that I think the majority of them have been disappointing. Last edited by John; 6th March 2004 at 06:30 PM. |

I'm Average. Yup, I'm not afraid to admit it. If I could play more often with other people(Meaning people outside of my house) then maybe I'd be able to say I'm an all-around gamer...(Maybe)
Overall though, I would have to say that I am an Average Gamer. ![]() |
