Movies to be rated "R" for smoking scenes beginning next year
WTF. These smoking groups have gone too far. First no smoking in public, even privately owned places. Now this? This is ludicrous. This means the The Little Mermaid should now be rated R.

That's so ridiculous. It's not like some kid will say, "SOMEONE IN A MOVIE SMOKED!NOW I MUST ALSO SMOKE!" Smoke haters need to get a life.

That's just pretty nuts right there. I mean, even though they're just making efforts to stop some people from smoking, this is ridiculous... I mean, as you said, even movies like The Little Mermaid should be given the rating R just for little smoking scenes and that's it. :/

I guess they're serious when they don't want kids to pick up smoking. This is just a little too much though.

If the movies are being rated R for that, then I suppose all of our typical every day tv shows with smoking scenes will have to be rated TV 14 or whatever the equivalent to the 'R' rating is for television.

I keep telling myself, "this is just like the Red Scare. Something gets blown way out of proportion for a decade or so, then nobody even remembers it." I think that's what's going to happen with ridiculous stupid sh*t like this in a few years. Then maybe the world (I'm looking at you, America) can get some dignity back. Remember the original motion picture code? The one that was set by the church, where it was illegal to even show a couple sleeping on the same bed? Remember that? Of course you don't. It was f***ing stupid. Which is why they got rid of it, and why they're getting rid of this too. It's only a matter of time.

You guys don't get it, it is a marketing plan. And it is only for movies where there is a smoker that looks good and is sexy. If it was a gangster that looks ugly, it wouldn't count.
The marketing plan? Most people watch rated R movies and there are going to be more. This isn't made by no-smoking groups by the way, it was an idea from the movie industries.

First they train dogs to sniff out pirated DVDs, tried to get a law past on how many people can watch a moive at once, and now this.
What has become of the MPAA [and all other industries for that matter]?
