Playtonic Reveals New Song, Character on First Birthday

Playtonic Games in their 34th (!) update to Kickstarter backers of Yooka-Laylee, have provided some new tunes, new characters, and new employees for backers to digest.

They have added three new artists to the team as development ramps up on Yooka-Laylee, set to release later this year. The new members include Damien and Talbot, two experienced Rare veterans that worked on games such as Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, and Conker's Bad Fur Day. Hamish Lockwood is also joining the team, despite his lack of Rare experience. (But don't hold that against him.)

The other major reveals in the Kickstarter update revolve around a new character shown for the first time here. Kartos is the latest addition to the Yooka-Laylee cast. Specifically designed by Kevin Bayliss to have a DIY feel, Kartos will be available for hire in Yooka-Laylee.

According to Playtonic, "Yooka and Laylee will have many encounters with this humble minecart, and together they’ll hit the tracks in search of paper-shaped golden nuggets."

Alongside the character reveal came a new cheerful tune from composer David Wise, of Donkey Kong Country fame. The new track will accompany Kartos and is the first new Yooka-Laylee track from Wise after one dropped from Grant Kirkhope late last year. You can listen to the track on Soundcloud now.
