Avatar (Xbox 360)

Avatars, developed by Rare, are customizable, animated humans that the player can design, dress, and interact with as a representation of him or her own self as part of the Xbox 360 experience. They are mostly seen on the Xbox 360's dashboard, particularly on a player's friend list in which the avatars of other people can also be seen. There are few games in which avatars appear, and are even controlled.

Development

Development of the avatars began at Rare previous to Nintendo's introduction of the similar Mii concept. Designers at Rare went through several different concepts before ultimately deciding on stylized human characters for "approachability."
