Story
Two years after the events of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, there are no signs of Grunty. Spiral Mountain has slowly been restored and its members are peaceful. Late one stormy night, Gruntilda the witch emerges from her mountain lair and enters the house of Banjo and Kazooie with the intention of kidnapping Kazooie, to use her for genetic experiments to aid her in the building of the Ultimate Beauty Machine. Banjo is still awake and tries to prevent this occurrence, however Grunty casts a spell on him that incapacitates him until the following morning, when he wakes up and discovers he is alone.
Banjo leaves the house to find Spiral Mountain once again in a ruined state, and meets Sabreman, who gives him a key to the Lair and wishes him luck. Nervous, he enters the Lair and continues on the long adventure to rescuing Kazooie.
Gameplay
The game revolves around exploring the hubworld (Gruntilda's Lair) and entering gameworlds, collecting Jiggies, Notes, and Jinjos. With these, the player can progress through the lair. The game mainly uses elements from RPG video games, including quests, battles, inventories and levels. This marks the first time Banjo and Kazooie have appeared in a role-playing game.
Characters
The game's main characters include the following:
- Banjo - The main protagonist of the game, and also one of the main protagonists of the Banjo-Kazooie series. He is a goofy male honey bear sporting a blue backpack (now used as the inventory) and a tight pair of yellow shorts. Without Kazooie, Banjo is finding it hard to accomplish tasks that were very simple before.
- Kazooie - The sarcastic red-crested breegull was kidnapped by Gruntilda at the start of the game. She must be rescued before it is too late.
- Gruntilda - The evil witch has refined her magic and transformed back into her form seen in Banjo-Kazooie. Speaking purely in rhyme, she kidnaps Kazooie at the start of the game and must be defeated in order to rescue her.
- Bottles - This gentle mole is a good friend of Banjo and Kazooie, and is very concerned when he hears about recent events. His molehills can be found all over the hubworld and gameworlds, and they serve to teach Banjo all the moves he needs to progress, as well as inform him as to the purpose of various places and items.
- Mumbo Jumbo - The skull-faced shaman who originally taught Grunty how to use magic, then turned against her when he discovered she was using it for evil. Now, he transforms Banjo, teaches him new abilities, and helps him through the adventure. His skull houses can be found in almost every world.
- Klungo - Originally an evil assistant of Gruntilda, Klungo now helps Banjo by supplying him with potions and teaching him certain skills.

Development
The game is currently being developed with RPG Maker VX, which uses the scripting language Ruby. The project was thought about towards the end of 2008, but did not initially start until June 2009, around the time RWP user TowerOfTragedy gave up his Banjo-Kazooie related RPG. It was deleted in September and built up again from scratch.
In December, 2009, he gave members of various forums the opportunity to submit their level into the game. Ten levels were accepted, however are and will continue to be adapted and suited for his needs. The winning members included JohnyT94, BanjoMaster, Breegullbeak, Rickwakefan123, mr.mumbo, WWWDOTCOMZZ, SonicFan91, DeN sLaT x, gpowell71 and lemurboy12. Various ideas were later replaced, a regretful decision but one that would aim game development and optimize variety.
The game ceased development from early 2010 and will be resumed in June of the same year.
Music
The music for the game was written by Little Laurence and Smouvy, with tracks from Grant Kirkhope and Robin Beanland.
