Description
The Barrel Cannon is a type of barrel that is able to blast the Kongs to different areas.
In the Games
Donkey Kong Country
In Donkey Kong Country, Barrel Cannons make their first appearance. There are two different types: a type that automatically fires when Donkey and Diddy Kong enter it, and a type that must be manual fired by the player. The levels Barrel Cannon Canyon and Snow Barrel Blast are based almost completely around Blast Barrels, and require precise timing from the player to navigate mazes of them.
Donkey Kong Land
In Donkey Kong Land, both types of Barrel Cannons appear, identical to their appearance in Donkey Kong Country.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, both types of Barrel Cannons from Donkey Kong Country return. The game also introduces new ones: the Bonus Barrel, which automatically transports Diddy and Dixie Kong to a Bonus Room, the Rotatable Barrel, which must be manually aimed in the right direction by the player before firing, the Steerable Barrel, which must be moved around by the player before firing, and the Diddy & Dixie Barrels, which are automatically-firing Barrel Cannons that can only be used by the character specified on the front.
Donkey Kong Land 2
In Donkey Kong Land 2, the original types of Barrel Cannons from Donkey Kong Country as well as the Bonus Barrels from Donkey Kong Country 2 return.
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
In Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, both types of Barrel Cannons from Donkey Kong Country return, as do the Bonus Barrels from Donkey Kong Country 2. The game also introduces the Ghost Barrel, an automatically-firing Barrel Cannon which disappears and reappears every few seconds, as well as the Tracker Barrel, which continually fires Dixie and Kiddy Kong upwards and tracks their horizontal movement. These are used for getting across gaps.
Donkey Kong Land III
In Donkey Kong Land III, all types of Barrel Cannons from Donkey Kong Country 3 appear, identical to their previous appearance.
Donkey Kong 64
In Donkey Kong 64, the manual Barrel Cannons appear as part of the Baboon Blast minigames, in which Donkey Kong is fired into the air and the player must navigate a Barrel Cannon maze (usually to earn a Golden Banana or to activate something in the level by flying through a star with the letters "DK" on it).
