Biography
Cheato is an anthropomorphic book of spells who is capable of levitation. Though he was originally owned by Gruntilda, he helps Banjo and Kazooie by giving them cheats. His outside cover is red with a yellow border, and reads "SPELLS" in yellow lettering on the front, with the back apparently depicting a yellow C-Up button.
In the Games
Banjo-Kazooie
In Banjo-Kazooie, he appears in three different locations in Gruntilda's Lair, and supplies a different helpful cheat to Banjo and Kazooie from each one. His cheats double the maximum capacity for Blue Eggs, Red Feathers and Gold Feathers.
Banjo-Tooie
In Banjo-Tooie, it is revealed that Gruntilda ripped out Cheato's pages in anger at some point, after he helped Banjo and Kazooie out in the first game. In this game, Cheato is located in the entrance room of Gruntilda's old lair. When Banjo and Kazooie first speak to him, he asks them to collect his torn-out pages. For every five pages they return, he offers one cheat to help them. There are three Cheato Pages per world (excluding Cauldron Keep and the Isle o' Hags) as well as one in Spiral Mountain, making twenty-five pages in total and, therefore, five official cheats. These were:
- EGGS - doubles the maximum capacity of all types of Eggs
- FEATHERS - doubles the maximum capacity of both types of Feathers
- FALLPROOF - makes Banjo immune to harm from long falls
- HONEYBACK - makes lost energy gradually refill over time
- JUKEBOX - activates the jukebox in Jolly's
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (Cameo)
In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Cheato does not appear in person, but in Banjoland there is a ramp modeled after him.
Banjo-Pilot
In Banjo-Pilot, Cheato allows players to buy various unlockables (tracks, characters, and Glowbo-activated boost rings) if they return enough Cheato Pages to him. These Cheato Pages can be earned by collecting up to four Musical Notes on a course.
