Cranky's Video Game Heroes

Cranky's Video Game Heroes is a competition between various video game heroes featured in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2, hosted by Cranky Kong. The goal of the competition is to collect as many DK Coins as possible.

The awards ceremony for the competition appears the first time the player finishes the game. Before Diddy and Dixie Kong collect enough DK Coins on Crocodile Isle, the rankings consist of Mario in first place with 39 coins, Yoshi in second with 29, and Link in third with 19. As the Kongs collect more DK Coins, they improve their ranking.

The stage of the awards ceremony also humorously features a trash can labeled "No Hopers," with Sonic the Hedgehog's Power Sneakers and Earthworm Jim's Plasma Blaster next to it.

Trivia

• The appearance of Sonic's shoes next to the "No Hopers" bin is due to Nintendo and Sega's bitter rivalry during the 1990s.
• Likewise, the appearance of Earthworm Jim's ray gun is possibly in response to the 1995 "Special Edition" re-release of Earthworm Jim, which featured a push-button code that turned Jim's head into Donkey Kong's with an arrow through it.
