Biography

Donkey Kong is a large gorilla who wears a red tie with his initials, DK, on it. He lives in a treehouse in the jungles of Donkey Kong Island. According to Rare, the current Donkey Kong is an adult version of the Donkey Kong Jr. from Nintendo's Donkey Kong arcade games, while his father Cranky Kong is an aged version of the original Donkey Kong from the arcade games. Donkey Kong is portrayed as being strong and brave, though at times lazy and not very bright, which has caused him to actually be kidnapped a few times.

Donkey Kong Country

In Donkey Kong Country's story, DK leaves Diddy Kong to guard the Kong's Banana Hoard one night while he sleeps. Unfortunately, the Kremling Krew led by King K. Rool storms the horde and overwhelms Diddy. They steal all the bananas in the horde and stuff Diddy in a barrel in the jungle. DK is awakened early next morning by Cranky, who angrily informs him that both the banana horde and Diddy have gone missing. DK frantically sets out after the Kremlings, eventually finding Diddy in the barrel he was left in, and allowing him to join along. In the game, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are the two playable characters, and can be switched between as long as they are both on-screen. One of the Kongs getting hit will cause him to run offscreen, at which point a DK Barrel must be smashed to regain him. Donkey Kong has a strength advantage over Diddy, although he is not as fast. At the end of the game, the two defeat King K. Rool aboard his ship, the Gangplank Galleon and win back the entire banana horde.

Donkey Kong Land

In Donkey Kong Land, Donkey Kong is a part of a bet Cranky Kong makes with him and Diddy that the two cannot do an adventure on an 8-bit system as opposed to the SNES. The two agree, and Cranky makes arrangements for them to go explore four new areas of DK Island and get more bananas. He emerges victorious once more.

Banjo-Tooie (Cameo)

In Banjo-Tooie, a Donkey Kong plush toy is being played with by Goggles, daughter of Bottles, inside Bottles' house in Jinjo Village. In the Xbox Live Arcade port, this doll remains, although it is given "wild eyes" in order to downplay its resemblance to DK.
