Characters

The Kongs

  • Diddy Kong - The "hero" of the game, or "would-be" in Cranky's eyes, Diddy just wants to prove that he can star in his own game just like Donkey.
  • Dixie Kong - Diddy's "girlfriend" and co-star in this game, Dixie boasts the ability to hover with her ponytail. She's out to prove that not all damsels are in distress.
  • Donkey Kong - The main monkey is captured this time around by the Kremlings. It's up to Diddy and Dixie to get him home safely, but are they in over their heads?
  • Funky Kong - DK's brother and the hippest ape in the jungle. While he's surfing away, he lets the monkeys take his new and improved Barrel plane to travel all over the island. It costs the monkeys two coins for a flight, but after that, it is free.
  • Cranky Kong - The head of the Kong family and undoubtedly the surliest and most sarcastic character in the game. When he's not putting Diddy and Dixie down or bashing the new "graphics" the games nowadays use, he gives the two hints about the levels in his "Monkey Museum".
  • Wrinkly Kong - The kind and motherly head of the Kong family and the wife of Cranky, Wrinkly runs a school in which she tries to teach Kremlings various subjects. She also gives Diddy and Dixie advice, like Cranky does so.
  • Swanky Kong - The flashy and charismatic Swanky runs the bonus game where the primates can win fabulous prizes. Just pay to play and answer the questions. You can win six lives per area if all three levels are played.

The Baddies

  • Kaptain K. Rool - The king has traded a crown for a Kaptain's Kap and a crew of Kremling pirates. He is exceedingly more powerful in his pirate gear and has more members than last time.
  • Klubba: Diddy and Dixie can see this "jolly" fellow in his kiosks starting in Crocodile Cauldron. He guards a toll booth with a Golden Barrel behind it leading to the Lost World, costing fifteen Kremkoins for each level in the area.
  • Krow: The first and fifth boss of the game. In the first match, he attacks by dropping eggs at Diddy and Dixie. In the second encounter, the ghost comes back to haunt Diddy and Dixie.
  • Kleever: A giant, living, sword that is the boss of Crocodile Cauldron.
  • Kannon: As his name suggests, he fires cannons at the heroes. He can either shoot indestructible cannonballs or barrels that can be jumped off of out of his cannon. He is a Klump in pirate gear.

The Friends

  • Rambi the Rhinoceros - One of the returning Animal Buddies from Donkey Kong Country. Rambi is a powerful Animal Buddy ally to the Kong Family that can bash through Kremlings and obstacles alike.
  • Squawks the Parrot - Another returning Animal Buddy, Squawks's role improves a great deal here, as he can now carry Diddy and Dixie through levels where they cannot progress otherwise. There is a related Animal Buddy to him called Flapper.
  • Flapper the Parrot - Considered to be a weaker version of Squawks, not able to fire eggs. It can only fly down instead of up.
  • Enguarde the Swordfish - The third and last returning Animal Buddy from Donkey Kong Country. Enguarde is perfect for underwater levels where extra muscle is needed for Diddy and Dixie. With his new Supercharge maneuver, he can break obstacles, similar to how Rambi can do so on the surface.
  • Squitter the Spider - The first new face, Squitter sports six legs each with a styling sneaker and the ability to attack and make platforms with webs. He's best used when having to terrain too hazardous to traverse on foot or if there's something in the air that the monkeys cannot reach themselves.
  • Rattly the Rattlesnake - Rattly is another major player in the animal list and replaces Winky from Donkey Kong Country. With a spring like body, he can bounce high up in the skies. and reach high areas.
  • Clapper the Seal - Clapper doesn't have that major of a role in the game. However, he has an ability to lower the temperature of water to make it safe for the monkeys to swim in.
  • Glimmer the Anglerfish - Glimmer has his own level where his light is the only way for Diddy and Dixie to see in the murky underwater depths. For such a little guy, he brightens up a large area.

Worlds

  • Gangplank Galleon - This area returns from Donkey Kong Country, but with levels. It is the starting area in the game that teaches Diddy and Dixie the basics of the game. Krow guards this world as the boss.
  • Crocodile Cauldron - The second world in the game. This place is challenging as the Kongs must keep out of burning lava, avoiding the various Kremlings and at area's end having Kleever as a boss.
  • Krem Quay - The third area containing the isle's swamps are home to many nasty creatures and also many secrets. From ship and underwater levels to the first bramble one, the monkeys must go throughout the area to face Kudgel in a battle.
  • Krazy Kremland - The fourth world that is "amusement park" themed that thrills it's patrons to death. In addition to the rollercoasters, the primates also end up travelling into several hives where the Zingers are met to reach King Zing with a battle.
  • Gloomy Gulch - The fifth world in the game. This grove takes Diddy and Dixie through haunted houses, extremely windy areas and at the end, Krow's new form, Kreepy Krow.
  • K. Rool's Keep - The sixth world in the the game. Here, there are castle levels which are varied and should be tackled with care. Diddy and Dixie must go to the top of the area to save Donkey Kong, but he is taken up into the Flying Krock.
  • The Flying Krock - The seventh and final world in the game with only a single level where Squawks races K. Rool's pet parrot, Screech. Wrinkly and Funky show up to give support when Diddy and Dixie fight K. Rool.
  • Lost World - The eighth world in the game that exists a "Lost World" for the Kremlings that can be accessed by Klubba's Kiosk. In this world, there are only a handful of levels, made to challenge the monkeys. Here, the two face the Kaptain K. Rool again when gaining all of the Kremkoins in the game.
