Donkey Kong Country 2 is the Game Boy Advance port of the Super Nintendo game Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. The subtitle from the original version has been removed in this version.

Changes

  • The game has an intro based on the prologue of the Super NES version's manual.
  • On the world map, pressing START brings up a menu that allows the player to save the game, level stats, Cranky's and Wrinkly's advice which was paid for, and quitting the game.
  • The graphics are brighter than the original's.
  • The death and end-of-level themes are no longer different.
  • The player can freely use the Gyrocopter at any time, though Funky's challenge in Gangplank Galleon has to first be finished.
  • Stronghold Showdown now features a boss: Kerozene.
  • Monkey Museum is renamed Cranky's Hut.
  • The death music and end-of-level music no longer depend on the level being played.
  • The song Run, Rambi! Run! is removed from the stage Rambi Rumble (however, it can still be heard in Sound Test mode). The new song is the same one used in Screech's Sprint.
  • The amount of lives and Banana Coins are saved.
  • A new mini-game called Expresso Racing can be played at Cranky's Hut. It involves racing as Expresso from a 2.5D viewpoint, trying to place first against other racers.
  • The inactive Kong is no longer shaded.
  • Each level has a Gold Feather hidden in it. Every Gold Feather increases Expresso's stats in Expresso Racing.
  • Scrapbook photos are hidden in some levels, necessary to obtain DK Coins at the Kong Kollege.
  • The world maps have been redesigned, along with Kong Kollege, Cranky's Cabin, Funky's Flights II, and Swanky's Showdown.
  • Cranky comments after the Kongs defeat a boss. In the original version, either Diddy would play his boombox or Dixie would play her guitar, depending on the lead Kong.
  • A new time attack mode called Diddy's Dash has been added.
  • Some sound effects from Donkey Kong 64 are reused.
  • The Warp Barrels are redesigned.
  • The Kackles in Haunted Hall all wear the same bandanna. They previously had different colored bandannas to indicate difficulty.
  • Boss rematches are timed and cost ten Banana Coins.
  • A thunderstorm occurs in the boss battle with Kleever, though only the first match.
  • There are often small animals in level backgrounds.
  • Some glitches have been removed, but a couple of new ones appear.
  • Candy Kong has been added to the game, and she serves as a model on Swanky's Bomus Bonanza.
  • The levels Target Terror and Rickety Race take place in the morning rather than night. The levels' music does not retain the background screams.
  • Dixie Kong's helicopter-spin has its own sound effect.
  • The Check and X Barrels sound effect have been changed to sound like a gate opening or closing.
