Differences from the original

General

As with Donkey Kong Country (GBA) and Donkey Kong Country 2 (GBA), the game's graphics have been brightened up to compensate for the darker screen of the original Game Boy Advance. The game's map screen has also been rerendered with new graphics, as have the Brothers Bears' shops. The game's subtitle, "Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!", has also been dropped from the title, as per DKC2GBA. Changes to the game's presentation have also been made; its opening and menu screen are brand-new, and. One of the most significant changes in the game is in the sound department: in addition to various sound effect changes, the game's soundtrack (originally mostly composed by Eveline Fischer), has been completely redone by David Wise to feature all-new tracks. Many of these new musical tracks also feature ambient sound effects before or after the main melody.

Gameplay

Another major change to the game is the addition of an entirely new world, Pacifica, featuring six new levels not in the SNES version. These levels also make use of the originially-unused TNT-Knocka enemy (unofficially nicknamed "Kracka") from the SNES version. Finally, the boss of the Razor Ridge world, Barbos, has been made the boss of the new Pacifica world. He has been replaced at Razor Ridge by a completely new boss, the Kroctopus.

Swanky's Sideshow, in which the player as Dixie or Kiddy went head-to-head with Cranky in a ball-tossing target test, was also replaced by a different minigame in this version: titled Swanky's Dash, it features Dixie Kong running through a virtual pipe and collecting 100 Stars.

Characters

Changes to the game's cast have been made. For one, a new Brother Bear, Bachelor, has been added to the game. He is located in Lake Orangatanga. Barnacle, the bear who previously made his home in Orangatanga, has now been moved to the new Pacifica world. Wrinkly Kong has also been changed. She has gone from being a Nintendo 64-playing fitness freak to being a monk worshiping the Banana Bird Queen. Following in line with the other ports, Cranky Kong also now talks to Dixie and Kiddy after they defeat each boss.
