Donkey Kong Country is a port of the Super Nintendo game of the same name to the Game Boy Advance. It was released in North America on June 9, 2003, Europe on June 6, 2003, and Japan on December 12, 2003.

Differences from the original

General

Most of the games graphics have been significantly brightened-up, in order to compensate for the original Game Boy Advance's dark screen. Some graphics have also been changed, such as the completely-rerendered map screen or the addition of some small background elements. Changes to the game's presentation have also been made; its opening and menu screen are brand-new. The music and sounds have also been modified for the Game Boy Advance's sound chip. Other minor changes include the reskinning of Very Gnawty and Really Gnawty so that they have swapped colors. Cranky Kong also appears to talk to Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong every time a boss is defeated. Additionally, if the player returns to DK's treehouse in Jungle Hijinxs directly after defeating Really Gnawty, Very Gnawty can be found taking refuge in the house.

Gameplay

While the gameplay remains mostly the same, some new elements have been added. The Kongs now have an additonal sidequest in the game of collecting cameras hidden throughout the levels, which contain various renders of characters and enemies in the game that can be viewed in a gallery. A completely new score-attack, titled "DK Attack," has been added to the game. The player also no longer needs to visit Candy Kong to save their game, as this can be done from the pause screen on the map. Because of this, Candy now runs a a dance studio, where a minigame can be played. Some of the games hidden warps have also been removed, presumably because they were unknown to the port's development team.
