Donkey Kong Country is a port of Donkey Kong Country from the Super Nintendo to the Game Boy Color.
Changes from the original
- One of five languages can be selected at the start of the game, except for the Japanese version.
- The selection screen includes more options and resembles Donkey Kong 64's.
- Two new minigames have been added in the Bonus option of the selection screen: Funky Fishing and Crosshair Cranky.
- Candy hosts a minigame called Candy's Challenge, only accessible in adventure mode.
- The game autosaves after a level or world is completed.
- Only one Kong is active onscreen, even when both are active. if both Kongs are, the player can press SELECT to alternate between Donkey and Diddy.
- Animal Buddies are not ridden. They are now morphed into, similar to the Animal Barrel in later succeeding Donkey Kong titles.
- Most of the music from Donkey Kong Land is reused. The Bonus Level failure theme from Donkey Kong Land III is also reused. Otherwise, the music is an 8-bit rendition of some tracks from the original version.
- The Cast of Characters is not included, and the ending credits do not occur in Donkey Kong's Treehouse. The credits instead depict random screenshots of the Kongs' journey.
- Two unlockable modes have been added: one mode removes all the DK Barrels, while the other mode removes all the Star Barrels.
- Three different title screens are now displayed. The three title screens respectively have a jungle, underwater, and mine shaft theme.
- The game is compatible with the Game Boy Printer which prints collectible scrapbook photos hidden throughout Donkey Kong Island.
- A new level called Necky's Nutmare has been added to Chimp Caverns.
- Winky's Walkway has been extended and redesigned.
- The Warp Barrel of Mine Cart Carnage has been removed.
