Donkey Kong Land 2 is a video game which is a part of the Donkey Kong series. The game was developed by Rare for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1996.
Donkey Kong Land 2 is a semi-sequel to Donkey Kong Country 2 and a sequel to Donkey Kong Land. The game's events take place between those of Donkey Kong Country 2 and Donkey Kong Country 3. Donkey Kong Land 2's levels also were redesigned.
Story
The game's story, according to the manual, is exactly the same as Donkey Kong Country 2's: Kaptain K. Rool has kidnapped Donkey Kong and is demanding the Kong's Banana Hoard in exchange for his safe return, forcing Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong to set off to Crocodile Isle to rescue him.
However, due to the other Donkey Kong Land games' status as semi-sequels, it has been assumed that the game does in fact take place in between Donkey Kong Country 2 and Donkey Kong Country 3.
Gameplay
The gameplay in DKL2 is virtually unchanged from the gameplay of the first game. The game is a side-scrolling platform game in which the player can control one of two Kongs (Diddy Kong or Dixie Kong). The player only has one playable character out at a time, as opposed to both being on screen as in the Country games. When the player breaks open a DK Barrel, the other character is left in reserve. If the player gets hit, characters are automatically switched. If the player gets hit without having a character in reserve, a life is lost. Characters can be switched in and out with the Select button. Notably, the game lacks the "team moves" that Diddy and Dixie could execute in DKC2. However, the game keeps other ideas from DKC2 such as winning Kremkoins from Bonus Rooms, and finding hidden DK Coins in the levels.
