Enguarde the Swordfish is a major recurring character in the Donkey Kong series.

Biography
Enguarde is a large, blue swordfish and one of the Kong's Animal Buddies.
In the Games
Donkey Kong Country
In Donkey Kong Country, Enguarde first appears in Coral Capers in the Kongo Jungle world. As Enguarde is an aquatic creature, he allows the Kongs to swim through water with more control and his pointy bill can be used to attack underwater enemies, which the Kongs cannot do on their own.
Oddly, in Coral Capers, there are two Enguarde crates; thus if one keeps Enguarde from the first crate all the way to the second, two Enguardes can be seen on-screen at the same time.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Enguarde returns. In this game, he sports a new ability: the super-stab. While holding the A button on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System controller, Enguarde charges up his power. Letting go of the button causes Enguarde to zoom forward through the water, harming enemies with his bill and destroying any breakable walls he crashes into.
Enguarde first appears in the Lockjaw's Locker level of the Gangplank Galleon world in this game.
Donkey Kong Land 2
In Donkey Kong Land 2, Enguarde appears again, with the same abilities as in Donkey Kong Country 2.
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
In Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, Enguarde returns once more. All of Enguarde's abilities from the previous games are available in this game.
Enguarde also plays a fairly large role in that he fights an entire boss, Barbos, a large Lurchin who is found in the Razor Ridge world. As a note, in the Game Boy Advance port of DKC3, Enguarde fights Barbos in a new world exclusive to that version of the game, Pacifica.
Donkey Kong Land III
In Donkey Kong Land III, Enguarde appears again, with the same abilities as in Donkey Kong Country 3. As with the SNES game, he fights Barbos, although this time in the first world of the game, Cape Codswallop.
Donkey Kong 64
In Donkey Kong 64, Enguarde returns yet again. In this game, he only appears in the Gloomy Galleon world as a transformation of Lanky Kong. However, the player can also unlock a bonus mini-game in which the goal is to go through red-and-yellow "DK" stars as Enguarde.
