The Game Boy Pocket was a redesign of the original Game Boy. The unit took 2 x AAA batteries, providing approximately 10 hours of game play. The Game Boy Pocket had a redesigned link port which required a new cable to link the original Game Boy. The first edition of the Game Boy Pocket was released without a LED indicator for battery level, however after public demand grew too great, Nintendo released later units with the LED indicator.
