Biography
The biological daughter of Queen Theena and King Solon, Kalus was devastated over the loss of her father. Kalus's resentment for Kameo stemmed from Kameo outdoing her in nearly every area, and as a result, made her desire for the throne, Elemental Warriors and the Element of Power stronger. Yeros was able to pick up on Kalus's spiteful and jealous attitude when she was young, and it was he along with Halis, Lenya, and the Mystic who convinced Theena to pass the power and artifacts to Kameo when the time came to name an official heir. Feeling utterly betrayed despite all of her efforts, Kalus sought revenge and released Thorn from his stone prison, and the two of them captured the ancestors and Theena, imprisoning them in the temples of the land.
History and Development
In the Game
Kalus, like Thorn, does not appear very often in the game, only appearing in a few sparse cutscenes and at the end where the player battles her and Thorn. Kalus simply summons Elemental Trolls for the player to deal with and when Thorn finally falls, attempts to heal him. The player must then transform into Chilla and use his ice spike in order to defeat her.
In the Manga
Kalus's character is far more fleshed out in the manga than in the game. Her animosity towards Kameo stems from her belief that Solon only died just to save Kameo. Kalus is also envious of her sister's freedom and the attention she receives from Theena. It is also revealed that Kalus spent most of her life studying and preparing to take the throne and her losing her birthright to Kameo is all the more devastating.
Kalus confronts Kameo herself during Kameo's first strike on Thorn's Castle.
Relations with Other Characters
- Kameo: Kalus has held Kameo in contempt ever since she was little, becoming jealous over Kameo's popularity and skills over time. This culminated when Kameo received the Element of Power, Warriors, and the throne instead of her. Kalus and Kameo do mend their relationship in the end however.
- Theena: Kalus detests Theena's doting over Kameo, and ultimatly seeks her mother's approval. She is especially hurt when Theena turns over the throne, Element of Power, and Warriors to Kameo when it was her birthright to receive them.
- Thorn: Kalus and Thorn seem to merely tolerate eachother, only working together to achieve their own goals.
- Solon: Kalus loves her father and was devastated when he disappeared. It was because of this that she turned against Thorn and joined Kameo in the final battle.
- The Ancestors: Kalus has a tense history with her aunt and uncles, especially after she learns they had a part in deciding her fate, which provokes her to trap them in temples throughout the land.
- The Mystic: Although her initial view of the Mystic is unknown, Kalus realizes in the end that the Mystic was a traitor and only used her all along.
- The Population: Kalus doesn't seem too concerned over what others think of her, and before her betrayal, the land seemed to adopt a "wait and see" view reguarding the elder princess.
Trivia
- Beta videos show Kalus with a dragon partner similar to Meepo.
- Kalus was initially meant to attack the player should they use a warp.[1]
[2] - Blizzie, the child kidnapped by a berserk Wyrm in the Snow Top Village, mentions seeing a "red-haired lady" before the dragon went mad and captured her.
Quotes
- Everything I do, every place I go, every victory that should be mine...Kameo's there, claiming the prize. Just once I'd like to wipe that smirk off her stupid face..."

“This was part of an idea that you (the player) might be intercepted as you transported across the kingdom, to engage in battle with one of the game's principle baddies, Kalus. It would have added another layer of gameplay while giving the character more to do, as it was Kalus only really appeared in cinematics and the player never gets to interact with her much until the final showdown. Eventually time restrictions meant that this idea was dropped after the cut-scene was already done.”
