Description
The Banana Hoard is a huge storage of bananas owned by Donkey Kong. It is his treasure that is persistently stolen throughout most of the Donkey Kong games. It is located in a cave near Donkey Kong's tree house in the Kongo Jungle on Donkey Kong Island.
In the Games
Donkey Kong Country
In Donkey Kong Country, the story begins with King K. Rool stealing the hoard after Donkey Kong leaves Diddy to guard it one night. K. Rool has his Kremling Krew steal the hoard and stuff Diddy in a barrel. Donkey Kong wakes up the next day, finds his hoard and best friend missing, and sets out to reclaim them from the Kremlings.
In the game, the location of the (now empty) hoard is in a cave directly under DK's house. The bananas have been spread throughout the island. DK and Diddy can find regular bananas in each of the game's levels, and larger piles of them can be found in the boss arena. For each boss the duo defeats, they earn part of their horde back. Finally, once they defeat King K. Rool on his Gangplank Galleon pirate ship, it will be restored to its full glory.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest the hoard is used a bargaining chip for DK's safe return, after he was kidnapped by Kaptain K. Rool in the game's story. It does not appear in the game, however.
Donkey Kong 64
In Donkey Kong 64, the Banana Hoard, this time made up of Golden Bananas, is stolen once more by the Kremlings, and Diddy, Tiny, Lanky and Chunky Kong are kidnapped. This is nothing more than a mere diversion by King K. Rool, however, as his real plan is to destroy the DK Isles using his new weapon, the Blast-O-Matic, while DK remains unawares.
In this game, the Golden Bananas are used similarly to the Jiggies of Banjo-Kazooie. The Kongs can earn them by doing missions and helping people within the game's worlds. The Kongs need a certain amount of Bananas to enter each world. There are 201 Golden Bananas in total in the game, and collecting them all and defeating King K. Rool will restore the hoard to its glory once more, during the game's ending sequence.
