“My title is the Lord of Games, but you has-beens can call me L.O.G. I am the grand creator of all video games!”
Lord of Games, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

The Lord of Games (L.O.G. for short) is a major character in the Banjo-Kazooie series.

Biography

The Lord of Games is an omnipotent deity whose sole job is the creation of video games. He claims to have been involved in the creation of every video game ever made. L.O.G. keeps living computer mice as pets, stating that nobody understands him except for his mice. He does not like cheese, as it gives him nightmares, which according to him causes the creation of games such as Taboo and Wheel of Fortune Junior Edition. He has also stated that, while he admits to being "fallible and self-indulgent" at times, he is not evil by any means. [1] He is married to the "Lady of Games," a (so far) unseen character who has assisted him in the creation of video games with ponies, kittens, and ninjas with rocket launchers. L.O.G. lives in Showdown Town, wherein his video game factory is located, towering above the rest of the town on a tall hill.

Visually, the Lord of Games has a very simple design. His head is a monochrome monitor with Pong (regarded as the first widely-popular video game) on its display and he wears a long purple robe. The Pong screen serves as his face, with the two paddles being his eyes and the speaker just under the screen being his mouth. In addition, his pet mice live on his body at seemingly all times, presumably due to his particular fondness of them.

In the Games

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, L.O.G., apparently fed up with a feud between Banjo & Kazooie and Gruntilda over Spiral Mountain's ownership, steps in to settle their struggle once and for all. He transports the characters to Showdown Town, and has them compete in challenges in his own created worlds. His terms are that the winner gets the deed to Spiral Mountain...but the loser spends eternity slaving away in his video game factory. Gruntilda's robot body that she uses in this game was built and supplied to her by L.O.G.

Quotes

From Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

  • "Remember Canary Mary? Did you have fun racing her? How I laughed when I was setting up those levels. I'm still laughing!"
  • "What's that? You want to know why you've never met or heard of me before? Well, I'm very good at disguising myself. Pet my piglet!"
  • "Have you met Pikelet, the chief of police? He's, ah, an acquired taste. But he does hold some sway over this town, so you should get to know his role here."
  • "They're all in the pipeline, you know. New Killer Instinct, Battletoads, and Jet Force Gemini games. Even Ghoulies 2! Oh, you'll never believe that. I've ruined my own humorous jape."
  • "It would be a shame to let Gruntilda win and turn your homeland into a grotty, ugly suburb. But I must remain impartial..."
  • "For my next trick, I may take that Piñata franchise down the survival horror route. What do you think? They go bad, trap you in a cabin and you have to fend them off with a shovel handle."
  • "Be grateful I brought you to Showdown Town and not Hoedown Town. It's far less pleasant there. The music! The line dancing!"
  • "The Jinjos in the game worlds are rather more independent than the few remaining in Showdown Town, who may need some help to escape their current circumstances."
  • "Have you discovered any of the trapdoor towers? You won't get in without a combination and I've kept that knowledge to a small handful of individuals..."
  • "I invented the first-person shooter, you know. Wish I hadn't bothered now. Have you seen how many of the things there are? I expect there's even a space marine in this game somewhere."
  • "So did you meet your old acquaintances around town? I thought it might be amusing if they took supporting roles in the game worlds too. Short-staffed? Why would you think that?"
  • "You may be restricted to a single vehicle in Showdown Town, but don't let that put you off experimenting with your best new parts to create mean machines for use in the game worlds!"
  • "Yes, there is a Lady of Games if you must know. Not that it's any of your business. She invented the first games to feature pony-riding, lovely kittens, and ninjas being blown up with rocket launchers."
  • "That Trophy Thomas fellow seems to think his gifts equal my own. But when it comes to maximizing your Jiggy count by replaying games, he does serve a purpose."
  • "Large areas of town will be unavailable to you at first. It seemed fitting that landmark battles with your nemesis Gruntilda should grant you the elements needed to progress."
  • "I discarded a lot of game worlds from this adventure. The Sewers of Severity, Vomit Volcano, Tooty Land...none of them made the cut, for whatever reason."
  • "Whatever the outcome of this conflict, do you think you could consider not having a nemesis for a while? Your squabbling gives me a serious migraine, right here behind my screen."
  • "So. You freed all the Jinjos? What if some of them were actually criminals? I jest. Shrewd work, bear."
  • "A potential injustice is resolved, now that all the freed Jinjos have been replaced with Minjos. A good job, well done."

L.O.G.'s Tips

During Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts' loading screens, L.O.G.'s head appears with random hints and tips displayed on it.

  • "Have you been playing for a while but still don't like the vehicle-based gameplay? Maybe you need to buy Banjo-Kazooie on Xbox Live Arcade instead."
  • "Showdown Town is made up of six different districts: the town center, theater district, seaside, lake, docks and uptown."
  • "Collect the Mumbo Crates around Showdown Town, then take them to Mumbo's Motors to add more vehicle parts to the garage parts store."
  • "Most of the vehicle parts in the Weapon category also require ammo to function. A simple but crucial point."
  • "Leave plenty of space between wheels and add them to the corners of land-based vehicles for optimal performance."
  • "Having trouble finding the Jinjos in game worlds? The Spec-o-Spy vehicle part is the answer."
  • "In multiplayer mode, you'll start your own party. If you're connected to Xbox Live, you can join your friends' parties or invite them to your party."

Trivia

  • One of L.O.G.'s idle animations features him playing the game of Pong on his screen.
  • One of L.O.G.'s loading screen tips states that Notes can be used to buy vehicle parts from Mumbo and blueprints from Humba; however, this is incorrect, as vehicle parts and blueprints are both sold by Humba.
