Biography
Ortho is a powerful if pompous wizard who takes it upon himself to repair the Wotnot Book after it was damaged in Thorn's assault on the Twycross and King Solon. Finding himself unable to restore the magic to its original extent, Ortho is forced to place himself inside the Wotnot in order for it to house the Elemental Warriors. It is he who tried to convince Kameo not to attempt a rescue of her family and as a result of her failure, keeps the Wotnot until she can prove herself again.
History and Development
In the Game
Ortho's main use is to provide the player with hints and tips in order to progress through the game. Plot wise, Kameo must complete the tutorial the Warrior Trainer gives in order for Ortho to entrust the book to her.
Relations with Other Characters
- Kameo: Ortho seems to treat Kameo like anyone else, seeing himself as above her until the end of the game where he sees Solon's character within her, prompting a change of attitude to a more encouraging one.
- The Mystic: Ortho seems to generally dislike the Mystic, and their interactions are more often than not played for comic relief. They tend to bicker and nag at each other when together.
- Warrior Trainer: Ortho describes the Warrior Trainer as his old friend probably due to their closeness to the holder of the Element of Power and the Wotnot Book.
Trivia
- Ortho originally had a wizard hat not unlike Gruntilda's witch hat.
- Ortho seems to have replaced Meepo as Kameo's sidekick in the finished product.
- The beta reveals that Theena was the one to give Kameo the Wotnot, with a little convincing.[1]
- When the Wotnot Book's model is on screen in-game, Ortho's face does not appear on it.
- Ortho is similar to Cheato from the Banjo-Kazooie series as cheats from both games are activated through both characters.
Quotes
- There's no shame in asking for a little help, you know!
- What would you do without me and the Wotnot for assistance, hm?
- You're looking a bit stuck, though not as stuck as I am in this dratted book...
- Hm...I think I have an idea!
- So you've returned from Thorn's Castle with your tail between your legs, hmmm?
