Biography
The Queen of the Third Age spent much of her life hunting for the Elemental Warriors, scouring the wilderness with her most trusted troops. Eventually, she discovered an Elemental Sprite deep within a meadow filled with fruits and berries. With the fabled Wotnot Book in her possession, the Queen was able to capture the Elemental Sprite and restore its true identity: Pummel Weed, the Elemental Warrior whose existence kept the harvest bountiful and helped the fruits of the land to ripen. With Pummel Weed at her command, the Elves would never go hungry again. Later, the Queen was able to use the Element of Power, transforming into Pummel Weed and harnessing his powerful techniques to destroy a rebel uprising in the old Sargothan ruins-an uprising that would have threatened the Elves' very way of life. History and Development
In the Game
Pummel Weed is the first Warrior to be found after the initial siege on Thorn's Castle. Pummel Weed can enter Warrior Focus faster than most Warriors with two successful jab combos. In addition to general combat, Pummel Weed will be used on the field primarily for diving under obstacles and utilizing any shells he finds. Alongside Rubble, Pummel Weed is essential to the fight against Old Mawood in the Forest Temple.
Abilities
- Jab - left and right quick punches thrown using the left and right triggers respectively. Alternate for a combo.
- Weed Creeper - Pummel Weed dives under ground to avoid enemies and pass under obstacles.
- Shredder - Allows Pummel Weed to dive under and use Explosive shells, and Troll shields.
- Uprooter - Unleashes an uppercut when using Weed Creeper and pulling the right trigger.
- Razor Top - Thorns protrude from Pummel Weed's head foliage, causing damage to anything they touch.
- Wildrush - Double fist attack delivered by double tapping the control stick toward an enemy and pulling both triggers.
- Weedkill - While using Weed Creeper, hold the left trigger until Pummel Weed is charged. Instant kill if it connects as well as a Brutal Bonus.
In the Manga
Pummel Weed only appears once in the manga alongside Chilla, and Major Ruin. The three of them together with Kameo lead the fight against Thorn, and Kalus, similar to the start of the game.
Pummel Weed's appearance is drastically different than his game counterpart's; being without his head foliage and moving on two root-like legs.
Trivia
- Early storyboard animatics and animations refer to Pummel Weed as "Flower Boxer."
- Pummel Weed was the first Elemental Warrior to be designed.[2]
- Pummel Weed was partially inspired by Professional Boxer Sugar Ray Leonard whom a designer was a fan of.[2]
- Pummel Weed was one of the five Elemental Sprites who brought Kameo to the Enchanted Kingdom. He was safeguarded by Theena as a sprite.
- One of Pummel Weed's alternate skins directly resembles Mumbo Jumbo from Banjo-Kazooie.
- Pummel Weed greatly resembles residents of the Forgotten Forest Glade.
