Biography

While King Solon was journeying across the kingdom, he met Theena and the two fell in love. Solon brought Theena and her family, Halis, Lenya, and Yeros to live with him in the Enchanted Kingdom, taking Theena as his Queen. After Kalus was born, and Thorn had been sealed away, Solon mysteriously disappeared and a baby girl with five Elemental Sprites and the Element of Power appeared in his place. The Mystic, whom Theena had saved from being banished by Solon for not reporting Thorn's uprising, informed the Queen that Thorn's Troll Lords had murdered Solon. The Queen immediately sent her armies to find the Troll Lords and sentence them to the depths of the Shadow Realm, not knowing that the Troll Lords held the remaining five Sprites. With the Troll Lords imprisoned, Theena restore the Mystic to her former place of power.

When it came the time for Kalus to take the throne, Queen Theena greatly hesitated upon being shown a horrid vision from the Mystic: Kalus's reign would end in complete and utter disaster. Meeting with her family, the Queen decided to bestow Kameo with the Element of Power and the Wotnot Book, to the dismay of her eldest daughter.

History and Development

Concept art of Theena

The beta shows Theena with a more active role in the overall plot of the game. She wasn't initially meant to be captured as she can be seen protecting Kameo from Thorn in an early animatic, and she is seen entrusting the Wotnot book to Kameo. Theena also appears in an apparent flashback, being restrained by Halis before eventually sealing Meepo away in stone for an unknown reason. Theena's role is drastically reduced to a few lines of dialogue and a small number of appearances in the finished product.

In the Game

Theena is presumably held in Thorn's captivity for the majority of the game, and isn't seen after her first appearance until the final battle atop Thorn's Airship. She can be found in the throne room in the epilogue of the game.

In the Manga

Theena reveals through flashback how Kameo arrived in the Enchanted Kingdom, as well as her inner conflict over which daughter to pass the throne on to. She is also seen with a young Kameo in the castle gardens, and later tucking her into bed after a story. Theena seems much younger than Solon.

Relations with Other Characters

  • Kameo: Her closeness with Kameo probably stems from Kameo's own closeness to Solon. Although not his real daughter, Kameo appeared along with five Elemental Sprites and the Element of Power, things as close to Solon as his own blood. Theena took Kameo's possession of the Element of Power as a sign and adopted her.
  • Kalus: Although still loving her biological daughter despite her decision, Theena is overcome with regret and grief and pursues her daughter in an attempt to console her. Theena makes no mention of Kalus when she is freed from Thorn's grasp however.
  • Thorn: It can be assumed that Theena loathes Thorn for his part in Solon's demise as well as for her daughter's corruption and Theena's own subsequent capture.
  • Solon: Theena was overwrought with sadness upon the death of her husband, sending her armies to find his supposed killers in retaliation. Her love for Solon extends to Kameo, for she feels the two are connected through the Elemental Sprites and the Element of Power.
  • The Mystic: Theena seems to place great faith in the Mystic, saving her from being banished by her husband, and repeatedly going to her for guidance. She also asks of the Mystic and wonders where she disappeared to at the end of the game.
  • The Population: The population as a whole don't seem to mind Queen Theena, and most are very grateful for her return at the end of the game.

Trivia

  • Beta animatics show Theena protecting Kameo from Thorn's final blow, transporting the two out of harms way with some spell.
  • Beta footage shows Theena with Kameo within the Enchanted Kingdom, hinting that she might not have meant to be kidnapped at one point.
  • Theena, for an unknown reason, is forced to turn Meepo to stone in beta footage, much to her regret.
  • Theena is seen flying in the beta, although she does no such thing in the final product.
  • Theena carries a rainbow colored disc on her belt that Kameo can be seen using in beta footage to catch monsters.
  • Ironically, Kameo resembles Theena more than Kalus does.
