Retro Studios, founded in 1998 by Jeff Spangenberg (formerly of Acclaim), is an American video game developer based in Austin, Texas. Best known for developing the Metroid Prime trilogy of games for the Nintendo GameCube and Wii, they have more recently developed Donkey Kong Country Returns, a fourth installment in the series originally created by Rare, as well as the Donkey Kong-themed tracks in Mario Kart 7.
