Sabre Wulf is a video game for the Game Boy Advance, starring Sabreman from the ZX Spectrum series of games. The game sees the player take the role of the hunter Sabreman as he searches for the eight pieces of the amulet in order to seal the wolf back into his statue in Blackwhyche village. The gameplay switches between side scrolling platforming and top down exploration.

Gameplay

For the most part Sabre Wulf is a sidescrolling platformer. The player collects friendly animals along the way to help Sabreman overcome the levels' obstacles. For example Serpent, one of the early animals, acts as a solid platform to allow Sabreman to cross chasms or obstacles. Between the main levels the game takes a top down perspective. All exploration aspects of the game are in this perspective. Along the way the player is challenged with various side quests which usually involve delivering a gift or a message to someone else in a different world.

Trivia

  • Sabre Wulf has numerous references to Rare's Ultimate Play The Game roots. The more obvious ones are the worlds, which are all named after various Ultimate titles. Other references include the character Cookie (also named after an Ultimate game) and an Atic Atac rug on the floor of the town hall.

Critical Reception
