Donkey Kong Country
In Donkey Kong Country, Squawks appears in the level Torchlight Trouble, a pitch-black mine. When the player releases him from his crate, he flies close to them, holding a spotlight in his talons in order to help guide Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong through the level.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Squawks appears as a playable Animal Buddy in various levels, the first being Squawks's Shaft. When he is controlled, he will either carry Diddy and Dixie Kong with his talons, or they will be transformed into him. The player can make him fly by repeatedly pressing the B button, or spit coconuts by pressing Y.
In the final regular level in the game, Screech's Sprint, the player turns Diddy and Dixie into Squawks in order to compete against the evil Screech. In this level, the player must use Squawks in order to beat Screch in a race. Failure means losing a life, but success guarantees the ability to visit Kaptain K. Over the course of the game, Squawks would also instruct the player in various ways, mainly at the beginning of Bonus Games, as well as following the player's Kongs and carrying a spotlight in dark caverns.
