Biography

Thorn quickly rose to power and prominence among the Trolls due to his size, strength, and brutality, qualities that are prized among Trolls. Once declaring himself King of all Trolls, Thorn sought to conquer the Enchanted Kingdom and the surrounding area, questioning the Elves' claim to power and their dominance over the other tribes. Solon banished Thorn and the Trolls from his lands using his Warriors, but that didn't stop Thorn from preparing a counterattack when Solon least expected it. With his seven Troll Lords, Thorn unleashed a surprise attack on the Twycross which prompted Solon to use his most powerful magical curse. Thorn turned to stone for a time and Solon disappeared. When Kalus betrayed her family, she immediately sought out the Troll King and upon his release, the two combined their powers to wage a new war on the Elves and the Enchanted Kingdom as a whole.

History and Development

Concept Art of Thorn.

In the Game

Thorn is really only seen in the beginning of the game and at the end as the Final Boss. Thorn's base of operations is his Castle, but he also maintains an Airship where the final battle takes place. Other than imprisoning the ancestors within the temples of the land and ordering his armies around, Thorn does not appear a lot throughout the game although he is mentioned very frequently by townsfolk and villagers.

Boss Battle

The climactic battle against Thorn takes place high in the clouds atop his mighty Airship. Unlike previous boss battles, the player does not have to strike at Thorn in a certain way to damage him; any of the Warrior's moves can be used to defeat him although Thermite is the best option. Thorn's attacks include various swipes, punches, jumps, and lunges, and after his health falls down far enough, he opts to use a massive ball and chain. In addition to avoiding Thorn, Kalus is present and summoning a variety of Trolls to attack and distract the player. When Thorn finally collapses, Kalus appears again to revive him, but at the same time, leaving herself open to attack. The player must then transform into Chilla and use his ice spikes to finish her off.

In the Manga

Thorn as he appears in the Manga.

Thorn only appears in flashbacks during his assault on the Twycross. Like the podcast, Solon seals Thorn away in stone and dies as a result.

Relations with Other Characters

  • Kameo: Thorn finds Kameo's quest and spirit amusing and doesn't take his battle with her seriously.
  • Kalus: Thorn seems to tolerate Kalus in the beginning, but reveals at the end that other than releasing him, Kalus was useless to him to the point that it wouldn't be worth his time to even kill her.
  • Theena: Thorn's contempt for the Queen is more prevalent in the Podcast where he specifically mentions her during his first meeting with Kalus. This is probably because Theena sealed his seven Troll Lords within the Shadow Realm Additionally, Theena is separate from the rest of the ancestors when Kalus is torturing them, probably so Thorn can deal with her himself.
  • Solon: Thorn has a deep vested hatred for Solon for banishing him from the King's lands as well as sealing him in his stone prison. To demonstrate his hate, he considers those born of Solon "tainted" with his blood.
  • The Population: The population at large greatly fear and loathe the troll king, and are quite relieved upon his defeat.

Trivia

  • Thorn is much larger in his first appearance than he is in the final battle. This might be influenced by Kalus's magic.
  • Despite what he feels about magic, Thorn is apparently envious of the Elemental Warriors as well as magic in general. This can be seen through his experiments on the Trolls as well as how the Elemental Trolls share abilities with the Warriors.
