Biography
Tiptup is a turtle. He is a music composer and leads the Tiptup Choir. He apparently has nineteen daughters and one son, Tiptup Jr. His name is a play on turtles being unable to right themselves if "tipped-up" on their shells (a joke that is later exploited by Kazooie when Tiptup Jr. encounters this problem in Banjo-Tooie).
In the Games
Diddy Kong Racing
In Diddy Kong Racing, Tiptup makes his first appearance as one of the playable main characters. He has low top-speed and fair handling. Interestingly, Tiptup is so far the only character in Diddy Kong Racing other than Diddy, Banjo or Conker to appear in future games (not counting Diddy Kong Racing DS), having appeared frequently in the Banjo-Kazooie series.
Banjo-Kazooie
In Banjo-Kazooie, Tiptup appears inside Tanktup, a large turtle living in Bubblegloop Swamp. He is leading the Tiptup Choir's rehearsal. When the player talks to him, he will challenge Banjo and Kazooie to a "simon says"-style challenge. Members of the choir will make differently-pitched noises in a certain order. If the player can successfully copy the patterns enough times (by Beak Busting each choir member), Tiptup rewards Banjo and Kazooie with a Jiggy.
Banjo-Tooie
In Banjo-Tooie, Tiptup appears in Jolly Roger's Lagoon. He appears on a beach behind Mumbo's Skull, standing next to an egg and looking worried. When talked to, he reveals that the egg is late in hatching and that he needs help. The player must use Kazooie alone to hatch the egg, out of which comes Tiptup's first (and only) son, Tiptup Jr. However, when Tiptup Jr. hops out of the egg, he ends up stuck on his back ("tipped-up," as Kazooie points out humorously). The player then simply needs to use an attack to right the child, at which point Tiptup will hand over a Jiggy as he leaves with his newborn son.
Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (cameo)
He was mentioned, but not seen, in Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge. There is a hotel room in Spiller's Harbor called the "Tip-Tup Suite."
Banjo-Pilot
In Banjo-Pilot, Tiptup can be seen in the Clanker's River course, standing on the median of a split path leading to the start/finish line.
Diddy Kong Racing DS
In Diddy Kong Racing DS, Tiptup returns as a playable racer, much the same role he had in the original game. It is worth note that neither Banjo or Conker appeared in Diddy Kong Racing DS (likely due to the issues of having main characters owned in part by Microsoft in a game about a Nintendo mascot), however Tiptup (whose appearances have been mostly in the Banjo games), does.
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (cameo)
In an edition of Scribes, it was confirmed that Tiptup would have appeared in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, although he does not actually appear in the game and thus was scrapped. However, his name is used as the nickname for Gary Talbot in the game's credits.
