Biography
Tooty, a honey bear, is the younger sister of Banjo. She is noted for her being cute, but intelligence is not one of her strengths. She plays the piccolo (a small flute). At the time of Banjo-Kazooie, she lived in Spiral Mountain with Banjo, although she was notably absent in Banjo-Tooie.
History and development
In an early version of Banjo-Kazooie, Tooty was called Piccolo (after the instrument she plays) and was Banjo's girlfriend. Her role was mostly the same, although she would have been kidnapped by a giant rather than by Gruntilda.
In the Games
Banjo-Kazooie
In Banjo-Kazooie, while visiting her brother Banjo for an "adventure," she is captured by Gruntilda, who aims to steal her beauty. She is eventually rescued by Banjo and Kazooie, after they beat Gruntilda in a quiz show. After this, Banjo, Kazooie, Bottles and Mumbo have a barbeque party to celebrate...until Tooty reminds them all that Gruntilda remains undefeated. This prompts Banjo and Kazooie to run back to the top of the Lair and finish her off. Tooty later appears during the real ending, enjoying a coconut on the beach.
Banjo-Tooie (Cameo)
In Banjo-Tooie she did not appear at all, save for her portrait, burnt and crooked, in Banjo's destroyed home and a picture on a milk carton in Guffo's trash can in Cloud Cuckooland declaring her "missing" - a self-aware joke by Rare, since she was in fact missing from the game.
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (Cameo)
In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Tooty does not appear in person, although there are shops around Showdown Town called "Tooty Fruity." The Lord of Games also jokingly mentions "Tooty Land" as a world that was cut from the game, a play on the Banjoland world.
Relations with other characters
- Banjo: She is Banjo's younger sister and enjoys spending time with him, though she can be annoyed by his lazy nature.
