Vehicles are a gameplay mechanic in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.

Overview

In the game, the Lord of Games (L.O.G.) engineers a competition between Banjo & Kazooie and Gruntilda over the rights to their homeland of Spiral Mountain. However, he does not allow Banjo and Kazooie to use their moves, instead making them use vehicles to complete challenges in worlds of his creation.

A unique aspect of the vehicle system in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is that vehicles can be created by the player and are fully customizable. They can edit existing vehicles, make their own from scratch, and are allowed almost total creative freedom over the vehicles they create. The vehicles are created in Mumbo's Motors in Showdown Town.

For custom vehicle creation, the player collects vehicle parts. There are around 100 unique vehicle parts in total. In creation, each part takes up a certain number of "blocks" on a grid. The only real limitation is that vehicles can only be, at most, 19 blocks tall, 19 blocks wide, and 19 blocks deep. Some of the vehicle parts correspond to Banjo and Kazooie's standard moves from past games (though the moves themselves have been removed).

The vehicles are rated in six key statistics: Power, Fuel, Ammo, Weight, Parts and Strength. A vehicle with high power, strength and weight will be hard to bring down, but will move more slowly, and might not be fuel-efficient, a speedy vehicle might have to sacrifice power and strength, etc.

The game includes some default vehicles, such as the Showdown Town Trolley (the only vehicle allowed in the overworld), those that can be purchased from Humba Wumba or those that appear during L.O.G.'s Choice challenges; challenges where players are restricted to a single vehicle designated for that challenge.

Players are also allowed freedom in what vehicles they use for what task; they could use a plane in a boat race, for example, or collect coconuts with either a truck fitted with a vacuum, or a helicopter fitted with a sticky ball.
