Wizards and Warriors is a trilogy of games by rare (including a gameboy game as well), however the only rare developed game was "Wizards and Warriors" on the NES. The other games in the franchise were created by a sister company from rare named Zippo.
The game is notable for being rare's first platformer on the NES and is one of their first "go back and find" style games that were seen in future rare titles.
Story
The storyline involves an evil wizard named Malkil, who steals seven women, and a princess, and Kuros, the protaganist must save them. The game is criticized much for it's generic storyline, causing them to have a change in the future games in the series.
Gameplay
The gameplay focuses heavily on collecting items and powering up. You need a number of gems to pass through a level, which is usually 100, 200, or 50. The battle system is criticized as well. The game's battle system requires Kuros to fight tons of monsters that usually take away a lot of damage. Since the game is so easy to die in, Rare put in an unlimited continue feature.
