Biography

Wrinkly Kong is an elderly female gorilla. She is very kind-hearted and usually offers helpful hints and other services (such as game-saving) to the adventuring Kongs. She has been shown to be a schoolteacher, religious monk, an adherent of physical fitness and exercise and even a gamer. She passed away some time in between Donkey Kong Country 3 and Donkey Kong 64, though still appears as a spirit, offering help as always.

In the Games

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Wrinkly first appears. She appears the headmistress of the Kong Kolleges on Crocodile Isle, apparently trying (unsuccessfully) to teach the Kremlings subjects such as math. She offers Diddy and Dixie the ability to save. Each Kong Kollege location allows them to save once for free, but every time after that they must pay with Banana Coins. Wrinkly also offers useful tips about various things in the game. Some pieces of information are free, but others cost coins.

Donkey Kong Land 2

In Donkey Kong Land 2, her role is the same as in DKC2.

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!

In Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, Wrinkly appears in her Save Caves dotted around the Northern Kremisphere. As before, she will offer Dixie and Kiddy Kong the ability to save, though this time they need not pay. When they visit, she is shown doing various things such as exercising, sleeping, or playing Super Mario 64 on her new Nintendo 64. She also keeps an eye on the Banana Birds that Dixie and Kiddy rescue throughout their adventure.

In the Game Boy Advance port of Donkey Kong Country 3, she is shown as being a monk rather than an exercising fanatic. She now only has one cave in the game, known as Wrinkly's Retreat, and she also no longer saves the player's game, as that can now be done at any time on the map screen by going to the pause menu. She still, however, watches over the banana birds that the player rescues.

Donkey Kong Land III

In Donkey Kong Land III, her role is the same as in DKC3, aside from caring for the Banana Birds (which are not in the game).

Donkey Kong 64

In Donkey Kong 64, each of the world's lobbies contains five color-coded Wrinky Kong doors (one for each playable Kong). Walking up to one of these doors will cause Wrinkly Kong's ghost to appear and give hints to the current Kong.

Relations with other characters

  • Donkey Kong: She is Donkey Kong's mother.
  • Cranky Kong: She is Cranky Kong's wife, although their marriage appears to have soured over time.
