Hey, Nintendo announced a brand-new 2D Mario game... and it's not a New Super Mario?! :eek:

It has bold and innovative mechanics like ziplining and silhouette levels! Wow! I'm so glad Mario has such original ideas that aren't completely lifted from a much better series!

All joking aside, it's been so long since something like this happened that I'm not even sure how to feel. The big new gimmicks are Wonder Flowers that activate "Wonder Effects," such as pipes coming to life, and a power-up that turns you into an elephant (which is somehow an apple or some kind of berry and not a peanut). It looks charming as heck!

Playable characters are Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yellow Toad, Daisy (?!!) and Yoshi. There's also a little caterpillar guy but I'm not sure he's playable.

Fifteen minutes of Mario Wonder. Amazingly, this marks the Koopa Clown Car's first appearance in a mainline game since Super Mario World. Whoa.

A quick rundown:


No online multiplayer
Seven worlds, including Pipe Rock Plateau, Fluff Puff Peaks, Shining Falls and Petal Isles
Twelve playable characters (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Blue Toad, Yellow Toad, Toadette, Yoshi, Red Yoshi, Blue Yoshi, Yellow Yoshi, and Nabbit)
All characters have the same basic physics
The Yoshis and Nabbit are easy mode characters that don't take damage from enemies
Elephant, bubble, and drill power-ups
Lots of new enemies like Hoppycats, Melon Piranha Plants, Condarts and more
A "badge" system similar to Yoshi's Woolly World, includes classic moves like the Mario 2 duck-jump
Wonder Flowers activate crazy effects like changing to a top-down view (!!)

Super Mario Wonder starting to look kinda EH tbh. we'll have to see I guess

Hey guys don't listen to old dumb qwerty here. We had that trailer that kinda disappointed me cuz it sorta looked like despite the potential the game had, it was gonna be way less ambitious and far more by-the-books than we all hoped. However, we recently got extended hands-on gameplay footage and it blows this notion totally out of the water. I was wrong, and that trailer was just weak. SMB Wonder is going to be a phenomenal experience.

If I never see another elephant upskirt as long as I live I think I'll manage somehow.

The strength to which I believe this statement however has only grown with time.

I haven't played it yet cuz life reasons, but High-Voltage Gauntlet is my favorite level I've seen. They totally nailed the look and vibe of electricity perfectly. I wish it was a much longer stage or they had a whole world like this, not just a level.

The game is really fun. I blew through it in a few sittings. If you haven't tried it yet, please play online! Getting a group of strangers through a level together is more fun than it has any right to be.
