Does Mumbo have a Russian accent?
He often skips indefinite articles like "a" and "an" and "the," which is one of the classic trademarks of Russian-accented English a la Boris and Natasha. At first I thought he spoke a nondescript Native language, but read some of these lines and tell me you can't easily hear them in the voice of the Heavy Weapons Guy:
Notice also that he doesn't use stereotypical old-timey Native phrases like "big heap," as Humba does. What do you guys think? Was Mumbo Russian all along? Discuss. :mumbo |
he's not meant to be a Native American stereotype, he's supposed to be an African Shaman stereotype.

Ding ding, correct!
Although it doesn't have to be African that's where he seems to pull the most from. But really he's a mishmash of non-specified tribal cultures. Mumbo's Mountain was more tribalistic early in development as well. |
Yeah, I remember some beta pictures where the Grublins wore masks that looked like Aku Aku.
Come to think of it, it's weird that Mumbo's Mountain has so much African flavor (a gorilla, a termite mound, a village of grass huts) but also Stonehenge is there. At any rate, I'm just pointing out that Mumbo's speech patterns can easily be read as Russian. |
Well, I'm now picturing Heavy wearing a Mumbo mask, crouching down in the hut trying to fit inside it while doing magic.
Thanks. But still, you do have a valid point. He does sound Russian.... and that I can imagine Heavy saying those lines |
Yeah he does not sound Russian. You are literally insane.
