GoldenEye editing
Helo im new to the forums but I have been vewing this site for a while.
I have sent an email to the letters section but it never turned up. In the letter I asked about goldeneye. I'm just wondering if you guys would be able to make an all round goldeneye editor (i.e. edit levels, missions, faces, animations, sounds ect AND be able to add them not replace existing ones) or make a goldeneye splitter of which splites the rom into varios folders ect. for editing and possibly playing as a windows compatible program. For the splitter you would need to make a romer to convert files back into roms. This is not as nessesory as editor. Thank you, I appreciate your help Trev |
Hi! Welcome to the Forums, Magical Trevor. I'm here to just throw out some info and stuff:
1. Topics like this usually go in places such as Anything Goes or The Lobby. 2. Watch this great movie., it's got some very good, educational information. 3. I think a "Romer" is an Emulator, yes? 4. Merriam-Webster Online!, a great place for when you can't spell a word. |
Hmm I'm amazed that you didn't take his pants. You wating for something?
|
I'm waiting for this to be in the right area...It just won't feel right otherwise!
|
Ahh...oh check your PM box, I sent you a message

I guess you're right...my bad. *Rips Off Icy Guy's pants*
Welcome Magical Trevor...to your worst nightmare! *Rips off Trevor's pants* |
Adding them is a bit tougher than replacing them. However, it is on the agenda...but it is probably still years away. It's just a really lot of data to figure out the format, not to mention blasted compression.
If all goes well, you might see a partial level editor some time in the next year out of us, but at the moment you can only replace textures. We pretty much know where everything is in the ROM now (sounds included), but I personally have no idea even how sound data is encoded. I'm glad to see people are interested in this stuff; I can't imagine how awesome a level editor would be. But this stuff is difficult, and takes a lot of time. |
So is there any chance of us seeing one of these editors for BK?
I'd help or try and make one myself but my knowledge about these things is like nothing. |
Maybe, but I like Goldeneye better than BK, so I have been concentrating on it...
BK might come one day. I actually found images in BT; I guess if I just had more time, maybe BK and BT will come. |

I hope N64 emulation has gotten better by the time any such editor is released, though, because, due to the state it's in now, peoples' beautiful efforts will be skewed by improper emulation. That, and I still want to see a combo of Project 64's compatibility and Nemu's debugging features. ;) |

I just like the idea of what we could do to a BK level. |
thanks
Hi I would just like to thank you all for replying to my post. I didnt realise how buisy these forums were.
Could you estemat how long it would be for the editors and what state is this first one going to be like? By the way I would like my pants back please. :) if anyone can keep posting on this goldeneye editing thread because I like to know its still being used and not forgotten. :) Trev p.s. the Rommer is not an emulator. it is a program to convert files and folders into a rom for use on console. e.g. goldeneye.exe+folders --> rommer --> goldeneye.n64/rom/v64ect. |
If all goes well, my guess is it will be half a year before you see a very "limited", probably text based editor for maybe one level or two.

How does the N64 sound stripper work? If you know couldn't you re-program that to edit/add sounds. I don't know how to do it but you might. There is one problem with the sound stripper, it speeds up some sounds. Is that to save space? Just an idea that poped into my head on my way to school, hope its useful. Trev p.s does anyone know how it's encoded; or even how goldeneye's encoded :) |
