Rare CONFIRMS removal of Stop N Swop!!

Gametrailers.com was allowed the honor to interview Rare's Ryan Stevenson at the recent D.I.C.E Summit where he talks about Viva Pinata, Banjo-Kazooie, and other Rare games. At around the middle of the interview, he is asked about Stop N Swop where he confirms that it was indeed cancelled! "It involved the swapping of cartridges and in the end they decided it just wasn't a good idea..." Watch the interview here:

http://www.gametrailers.com/player.p...e=mov&id=17131

After 10 years of waiting, we now know 100% that Stop N Swop is not there. FINALLY! I don't know about all of you, but I am relieved... It's like a big weight on my shoulders has just been removed. God am I ever happy. WOOHOO!

Zy0n7 19th February 2007 11:51 AM

Well hope that convinces some people here.
I should buy a 360 T_T hope it has a price drop when banjo comes out

banjo-eighty 19th February 2007 12:09 PM

Erm........can I just say he didn't say they removed it,

"It involved the swapping of cartridges and in the end they decided it just wasn't a good idea..." is hardly the same as ZomFg we h4ve abs0LutlY d3fiN4tLy cOmf!rm3D sNS !5 r3mov3d!!1, sorry if that sounded mean, but they said they removed bottles revenge too. So inclusion I'm not sure if we can beleive them.

NStar13 19th February 2007 01:46 PM

Banjo-eighty is correct he doesn't say it was removed, but that would be nice if they could just flat-out say that it wasn't ever there. This whole stop n swop thing is getting very tedious.

Actually they confirmed the existance of Bottles Revenge in an issue of Scribes before it was hacked out.

But that wouldn't be accurate since Stop 'n' Swop obviously was there (in Banjo-Kazooie at least) at some point.

Fox McBanjo 19th February 2007 02:30 PM

It cant have been removed 100%,as remenants still remain. If it WAS removed 100%,we wouldn't be able to hack out Bottles' Revenge. The link-up was removed, but some features, like Silo 8/9,The Base Eggs and Globo Cave can still be found, even if they are only in small doses.100% would mean NOTHING is there.Obviously,it wasn't.

Andre 19th February 2007 02:44 PM

...

What the hell do you people want? A Rare employee comes out and explicitly tells you that Stop 'N' Swop was removed from Banjo-Tooie, yet you still don't believe it? Despite how painful it may seem, you need to except the truth.

Klungo 19th February 2007 02:59 PM

I think that rare is just ending the SNS mystery so that we can focus on the mystery of Blackeye that has already been continued with the Mud Plugger reference in Viva Pinata. I can't wait to see if Blackeye returns in Banjo 3 and gives us more hints to his connection to the first game.

PS Hylian1: The link for the video of the interview dosen't work.

NStar13 19th February 2007 03:05 PM

What I meant to say ealier was that it would be nice if they could tell us that it is not acsessable, that would stop the people that think that you can still swop the items from coming up with more unprovable theories. I'm sorry if I was not clear before.

qwertybub3 19th February 2007 03:14 PM

What he said was "...I think they just decided in the end that it probably wasn't a brilliant idea"

THIS MAN SPEAKS TRUTHS
Except it's "accept the truth." :p
Still, this man speaks truths. IT IS NOT THERE. THIS IS AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT. IF YOU STILL THINK IT'S THERE THEN KINDLY GTFO KTHXBAI.

Kab 19th February 2007 03:27 PM

Well, it IS sad to hear that it was removed, but at least now we probably won't see any more "ROFL I FOUND SNS" threads.

Not necessarily, Kab. Unfortunately, it still seems some of them still believe SNS is really in there, despite the fact that it has already been 100% proven that it's nooot in there. Dude, guys, c'mon already... Even after a Rare employee tells you HIMSELF that it's not in there, you're still refusing to believe that it has definitely been canned? No offense, but honestly... What.

NStar13 19th February 2007 03:36 PM

I agree with you Shadow Angel, but the thing is that he didn't actually say that SnS was removed so until a rare employee does say that it has been removed, there will always be people who still believe it is in there.

SubDrag 19th February 2007 03:40 PM

Well done Gametrailers. It's the first time I've ever heard anyone from Rare put on the spot. Rare's still pretty secretive it seems, but this was more open than usual.

"Stop N Swop?"
"Not that again".
(as the reason Rare still won't affiliate with the RWP becomes abundantly clear)

Avarice 19th February 2007 03:55 PM

Then I guess... There really isn't a reason for half the people who visit here to come back.

Kab 19th February 2007 03:55 PM

Oh, and.........Whenever I try to watch the interview, I can see the video, but I get no sound. What's going on?

If ANYONE is here for the Stop 'n' Swop discussion alone, what are they doing for the community ANYWAY? :p

Ice Lightning 19th February 2007 04:07 PM

Bloody hell can't people just accept that it's not in the game anymore? Like Andre said we finally got an official explanation it was removed but people won't believe it =/

We need more people to do things where there's actually a chance of finding something out like finding the rest of the BK cutscene modifier instead of the few scenes we have now.

Try updating your QuickTime player.
EDIT2: nope, it's actually Viva PiƱata music... Man, I need to download that OST.
:D

Donkey Kong 19th February 2007 04:09 PM

Just because he didn't straightly say "Stop N' Swop doesn't exist" doesn't mean it does.

When he says that he wants everyone to forget about it, he basically means that nothing worth searching for is in either game, so forget about it. We've already found all there is to be found in the two N64 titles.

But, it is confusing to me how Rare insists that they want us to forget about it, yet the keep inserting little SNS teasers into their games (like the whiteboard in GBTG).

I think they just want to annoy us like how they said when Bottles Revenge was found that we were close to solving SnS.

If anything from my eleven years of playing Rareware games have taught me, it's that they love to mess with us. They get hours of enjoyment out of seeing you all jizz over a chalk-egg.

billthemaxster 19th February 2007 04:30 PM

wot no stopn' swop nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooo

how can any body remove it so many people devolting their lives to find it

boo hoo

p.s. i never had an N64

bill

Mr.Patch 19th February 2007 04:34 PM

Too bad doesn't mean we can still search around for old left over stuff and such.
Like weren't the base eggs just found a while ago?

And im just starting now to understand the basics of hacking , and as long SubDrag makes goldeneye updates ill be visiting daily.

Whyme123 19th February 2007 04:51 PM

Horay! Now most of the smart people will give up, and focus on B3! Whoopie!

But there will STILL be those idiots who try to look...

Donkey Kong 19th February 2007 04:54 PM

I think we've cleared BK of everything we're gonna find. Still, I'd like to know about what Rare intended to do with the pirate from Jolly Roger's Lagoon. (Blackeye, was it?)

Andre 19th February 2007 04:54 PM

Moved to Banjo Discussion, due to this being an actual topic worth discussing.

Whyme123 19th February 2007 04:57 PM

His name is Blackeye...

Donkey Kong 19th February 2007 04:59 PM

Changed. But still, if SNS was to be completed, it seems that he'd be an essential part of it as he talks about it and he is in pictures in BK. I accept that SNS is removed...I just want to know what part he would have in SNS.

Mr.Patch 19th February 2007 05:01 PM

There must of been something with Blackeye , because he did almost nothing of importance and spoke almost in riddles and hints and apparently drunk on water.

Donkey Kong 19th February 2007 05:07 PM

He confused me the most in the whole SNS "conspiracy". I never believed that Mount Fire Eyes (Ice) was still in Banjo Kazooie...I believed that Fungus Forest was moved to Donkey Kong 64...and I believed that Hammerhead Beach was turned into Treasure Trove Cove. The eggs and the Ice key could be collected, but that's the end of the search. Nothing else can be done.

In Banjo Tooie, there is no major mention of Stop N' Swop other than Blackeye's drunken rantings about it. I know Rare likes to push our buttons, but why include anything about Stop N' Swop in a game that it was intended-but-already-scrapped for?

Mr.Patch 19th February 2007 05:13 PM

Also Ice Mario and SubDrag did find a few SnS hints in DK64 so there might be a few more little details in that but I doubt it they could of easily stopped it in the making wasn't the N64 changes made before DK64 was made (the memory thing to stop hot swaping the name escapes me)

But theres still some looking into it.

ChillyDark 19th February 2007 05:15 PM

At last.
This is the moment I've waited for, I finally know the answer to SNS.
I salute you Bottles 98, you did quite well in convincing people it doesn't exist.

Donkey Kong 19th February 2007 05:15 PM

What kind of hints in DK64?

Soulreaper41392 19th February 2007 05:22 PM

There was "ICEKEY" text in the game and there was the SnS fanfare in the Scoff 'n' Troff area. @DK

Also, SnS go bye-bye. Deal with it. @everyone

People are still going on.

What the sh*t.

IT'S OVER, PEOPLE.

Donkey Kong 19th February 2007 05:29 PM

We know that SNS isn't extant. We are just discussing the strange remnants of the marooned project.
