DK64 turns 20 years old! . . .And Donkey Kong Country turns 25!!!!!
Everyone gather round! DKC turns a quarter-century old today!!!! Dubz brought my attention to this special interview, with old Rare staff talking about the game. Listening to it now and it's good so far. This is the singular game that cemented Rare's place and identity to the world. Its impact to video gaming as a whole cannot be understated. :dk :rare Post/discuss anything DKC!!! :cake UPDATE: Aaaaaand Donkey Kong 64 celebrates its 20th birthday a day later. Looks like it's Monkey Week! https://i.pinimg.com/400x300/29/38/3...bf748f05ca.jpg A little more. . .infamous than DKC was, DK64 left its own . . erm . . unique major impact on gaming. Take it to the fridge!!! https://conteudo.imguol.com.br/c/ent...7_v2_600x1.jpg |

I got it when I was a kid and I loved it. I mean, I was never any good at it as a kid, not knowing the finer intricacies of the.. kongtrols.. but I absolutely loved the art direction, the killer soundtrack, the character / enemy design... I've since gone back and finished it and its Rare and Retro Studios sequels, but man, what a game.
The minecart levels, all two of them, were some of my favorites. https://www.mariowiki.com/images/5/5...age-SNES-2.png |

I'd kinda like to see a remaster of DK64 more than B-K. It could really use it more, and it'd be really fun.

GameXplain also interviewed the man himself, David Wise

DK64 isn't terrible, but it's probably the worst of Rare's N64 platformers and one of the least good DK games in general. It's full of repetitive busywork (switching Kongs to hit switches, etc.) and the combat is especially bad. A lot of the time, enemies feel like they're not even there. You can tear through them like tissue paper. Enemies weren't Rare's strong point in the N64 years, but at least the ones in Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie felt solid, and smacking them was satisfying. The only thing I really love about DK64 is the music.
I'm all for a remake that really polishes the game, but I'm not exactly clamoring for another 3D DK. At least not until Retro Studios gets to finish their trilogy, especially since they've said they want to include more animal buddies in their next DK game (Enguarde, anyone?), and now that King K. Rool is back, I'd love to see their take on him too. |
Yea I replayed it a while back and it was...well it didn’t age very well
I will say it has the best example of a final exam boss (I believe thats the term) |
My favorite part of DK 64 is the part where you find a golden banana for one kong and its surrounded by bananas/coins/balloons for a different kong
