Haven't you figured it out yet? in 1995 nintendo planed to release the N64DD (Dynamic drive) Which was higly possible to be what the SNS was meant to do, Banjo-tooie was planned to work with the DD however since in the last minute the DD was cancelled due to commertial failure. This is why RARE made the smashing cartiges buisness. About Blackeye is another theory he may have only been placed there to explain the outcome of project DREAM and the sns intension and outcome that was revealed by LERAKOLANCHE in youtube The capability exists only in BK but maybe if we use the BT ROM in the DD this might despite believe of the contrary.
