The original DKC came out Nov. 24th, 1994 (Original release date was Nov. 21st, 1994)

DKCR's release date is Nov. 21st, 2010. That's a very awesome coincidence.

Well, there are jiggies in DKCR... ;)

In fact, they seem to have replaced the Kremcoins / Bonus Coins.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice this.

Oh god..I.. I....oh god...

Mandolin 7th November 2010 09:52 PM

You people barely noticed that? What the hell?

*BanjoGamer* 7th November 2010 10:57 PM

You mean the classic DK in the background?

Mandolin 8th November 2010 12:23 AM

Yeah. Fun fact: that specific sprite is from Donkey Kong Jr. Math.

Let that sink in for a minute.

*BanjoGamer* 8th November 2010 12:33 AM

...Wut?

Zondekel 8th November 2010 09:53 AM

It's true- it's from when he's holding up the amount you have to make... I think. It's been awhile since I played it in Animal Crossing...

Mandolin 8th November 2010 10:11 PM

Something I really like about this game are the non-Tiki Tak enemies. They all look so good; you can tell they were designed with Rare's aesthetic in mind. I love the ground parrots and hopping green frogs, but currently I'm especially taken with the purple bats! Don't they look exactly like some hithereto unseen art from the DKC trilogy's instruction booklets? I love those little guys.

I may change tack after they cause me to plummet to my death ten million times, though.

How do you guys like the enemies?

Mandolin 9th November 2010 08:41 PM

The Super Guide is coming back.

Gametrailers Preview

here you can see the first world map and some sweet lava levels.

Mandolin 10th November 2010 10:48 PM

I really dug the stage names, "King of Cling" in particular. They're really honoring the Country aesthetic. On the other hand, I paused the video to read all of Cranky's lines, and none of them were all that cranky... he says "Excellent choice!" after Donkey picks an item (Cranky praising his son? What kind of sorcery be this!?) and "If you see that rhino fella out there, tell him to stop by." I really, really hope they didn't change his personality again...

Tooie 11th November 2010 12:38 AM

That level where you're outrunning tidal waves.

Nng.

Want.

TRBB 11th November 2010 02:01 AM

The world map is way too much like Mario Bros. DS/Wii. It even uses the same colors:

Black ~ Haven't Unlocked
Red ~ Unlocked Level
Blue ~ Completed Level

But that's only a minor complaint, the game still looks fantastic!

Edit: According to Mario Wiki: US ~ Nov. 21 Australia ~ Dec. 2 Europe ~ Dec. 3 Japan ~ Dec. 9

Rhyming British DK.

TRBB 12th November 2010 01:13 AM

^ Hahaha yeah, I saw that on TV a while ago.

Here's the opening cinematic!

Lookin' good. You gotta dig DK's aside glance near the end.

Keegan 13th November 2010 07:11 AM

Not watching, but I'm sure it's fantastic. :)

Mandolin 13th November 2010 06:14 PM

Game Informer gave it a 9.5 / 10 :D

Can't wait can't wait can't wait

Wow... i do really want to try it now.

Mandolin 15th November 2010 01:33 AM

Unfortunately, Rambi and Squawks are the only animal buddies featured in this game. :(

Kain Horward 15th November 2010 01:37 AM

Holy shit, I was on media blackout for this game but I caved in and watched that GameTrailers preview...Oh my god. Retro knocked this one out of the park. I wish I didn't have to wait until December to play it! :(

Aw...it isn't that big of a deal to me, but I know how much you love this series and were hoping to see all the animal buddies back in action.

Hopefully they'll be in the sequel :) (Seriously, they better start working on one ASAP)

Starblazer 15th November 2010 01:37 AM

What happened to Enguarde being in the game?

edit: Also, NOOOO, Squitter, Espresso, WHYYYYY?!

I would assume with the removal of any water levels that would mean the removal of the water animal buddy.

Starblazer 15th November 2010 01:46 AM

By "flying swordfish" I'd assume they meant Enguarde...

I laughed at that. He looks at the audience like, "Who the crap is this guy?" :p

I loved the part with Diddy, too.

This game looks so good. I've missed Donkey Kong.

Starblazer 15th November 2010 12:36 PM

I was waiting for DK to punch the shit out of him.

I don't "get" Expresso's popularity. He was the most useless of all the animal buddies, generally speaking.

I'm 100% with you on Squitter, though. And Rattly! How many more years must go by before I can straddle him again?

Mandolin 15th November 2010 10:26 PM

Breaking. F***ing. News. I got the new Game Informer in the mail today. Here's the skinny...
  • The game got a 9.5 /10 and named the best of the Donkey Kong Country series, Game of the Month, and GI Gold.
  • No animal buddies other than Rambi and Squawks, no Kong family members other than Cranky, and no Kremlings.
  • There are eight "themed" areas (jungle, beach, ruins, etc.), including a Lost World called the Golden Temple.
  • Rolling doesn't work that well because the motion controls are overly sensitive, but that's the only problem.
  • Percentage count doesn't exceed 100%.

Go ape wild.

[Insert Double Post Apology Here]

New Trailer.

The music sounds too much like Metroid, hopefully all the new songs won't sound like that. Donkey Kong Arcade around 00:50. Also, Robot Chicken-Egg boss! Reminds me of Wallace and Gromit.

Mandolin 16th November 2010 06:52 PM

Why didn't they use the Hot Head Hop theme instead of that Metroidy new one? I am severely disappoint.

10,000th post. And it's on a DKC4 hype thread! Surely, today is a Great Moment in Mando-History.

Keegan 16th November 2010 09:55 PM

DAMMIT RETRO, STOP TRYING NEW THINGS.

Mandolin 16th November 2010 10:07 PM

I got no beef with the vast majority of new stuff in the game. In fact, I've come to welcome the Tiki Tak Tribe into DKC's pantheon of ne'er-do-wells, and that's what most series fans seem to be having trouble with. But I rather dislike the fact that they aren't drawing inspiration from anything but the first game. There were tons of cool things in the second and third games, especially regarding the music, Retro could have mined for added nostalgia awesome but didn't.

Starblazer 16th November 2010 11:50 PM

Espresso was just fun to play as because he was fast and shit. :p Was expecting to see all the animal buddies back, though... this Christmas will definetely be awesome for me because i'm buying 4 awesome games:

CoD Black Ops

DKCR

Sonic Colors

Kirby Epic Yarn

Mandolin 17th November 2010 11:58 PM

Roughly ninety-six hours left, boys and girls! Let's savor the last few days of not having it with a good ole DKCR chat.

So... in the foggy factory stage, you can see the first stage of the original arcade game, girders, ladders, and all.

Discuss.
