Announcing the BKArchive
Today, Christmas Day 2013, I'm officially announcing the BKArchive (if you hadn't guessed already :p)
'So what is the BKArchive?' you ask? Well, the BKArchive is meant to be your one-stop-shop for all things Banjo-Kazooie (and a few other Rare things, which are necessary). Whether your looking for a specific fanfic, or the very first Nuts and Bolts commercial, the BKArchive's got your back. It is built to be a digital time-capsule so you can bury it with a host computer and dig it up in whoever many years! 'Great, but why can't I download it?' The trouble is, the total archive is close to 4GB, which is tough to host (and upload, for that matter). Plus, I'm still hunting for content after about 3 months (yes, that's what I've been doing ;)). Instead, I'm asking everyone that can to email me their BK stuffs so I can add them, and hopefully have a full release before Valentines Day. To email your things, attach your file (or a text file containing a link) to upload.BKArchi.frbo5okuqm@u.box.com. When emailing things, I won't get a message in the normal email. To send a message along with you file, I would advise you to make a .zip archive and put your message as a .txt file inside, along with whatever you are attempting to send... Merry Christmas, and please help me with the BKArchive! :D Here's a general idea of what's inside: UPDATED!! Everything in bold has grown! Number of Video Game Audio Files (soundtrack + sfx): 3,470 Number of Fan Songs: 431 Number of Fan Games: 22 (including all demos) Number of Piano Sheet musics: 83 Number of Spritesheets: 143 Number of Fan Images: 232 Number of Images in the Texture Packs: 8,957 Number of Game Manuals: 7 Number of Concept Art images: 140 Number of Official Artwork: 320 Number of Videos (both fan and not): 16 Number of ROMs: 24 Number of Fan Documents (theories, fanfics, etc.): 61 EDIT: I've attached the general FAQ that will be included with the BKArchive. Look there before posting and see if your question can be answered there. EDIT EDIT: The above mentioned FAQ was...waaaaaay outdated, so it's been removed. That method of help was changed to a simple jumpstart Readme.txt. However, please ask for help here if you still need it! |
This is really cool! I'll see if I can find something particular between my files, but I think it's nothing you already haven't.

Haven't demolished? Haven't shanked?! PLEASE WALECS, TELL MEEEEEEEE!!!! oh and tanks for da compliment! :D |
:P
I mean, you already own everything I have. |
I do?
While I've got a lot of things (almost 4GB worth of stuff), and this was the first place I've poured through. In fact, this is the most combed through place I have done. Do you remember Banjo-PCie? How about BKPC or BKPC2? I gots them all! Also, if you, or anybody else here on The RWP would mind getting me this, I would be appreciative. I can't seem to download it! Walecs, if you have any fanfics, send those first. I most likely have your pictures (although send those too), but I have very few fanfics... |
Even never made fan games?

But seriously, anything really BK related can go in the BKArchive. I've attached the general FAQ in the first post (big 'ole text file). Most of the information in it isn't really relevant because you don't have the archive, but it some useful info on submitting new files. |
Okay, I'll send you a detailed email, then.
|
Updated the first post.
Is anyone surprised? |
Hello again to everybody here at The RWP.
I've updated the first title to advertise the need for beta testers. Great, you say, I'd love to beta test! Before I'll allow you to, please read the following information, for warnings, and to see if you qualify. 1. I'd appreciate some feedback. If you're usually not very active, or don't think you can actually "test" the archive, don't bother. 2. If you have feedback, make it worth making you a beta tester. I know this is just a silly little Banjo related project, and I will come out very soon, but I'd like some decent feedback. I don't want Great, no problems. Can I re-upload this?. Something constructive. 3. Please don't repost the things here. You are free to do so when it release, so long as you include an attribution along side it. If you're interested, submit a .txt file to the previously mentioned email, PM me, or post below. |
UPDATE: The beta period is now closed (as if anyone signed up :p). I did get some buddies to test it instead. As always, please submit your content! Anything submitted on or after Feb. 7 will not be added into the BKArchive. However, considering that I have gotten little to no content, I'll still probably put it in for the initial release.
|
Ooh, fan songs go in this too? I've made several Banjo-Kazooie remixes over the past couple of years. Though big chance they're already among the ones you have.

Fact is, I haven't even listened to any of it. I decided early on to do my best not rip things from Youtube (not to say I haven't ;)). Do send them. And anything BK-related as well. |

they should all have working download links in the description :)

Correction, most of them have links... Back on topic though, you'll find everything on that playlist in the BKArchive when it's released. |
Much appreciated :)

I think this is really cool and all, but why aren't you accepting content after February 7th?

But just between me, you, and everyone else that reads this post, you could submit it days away and it'd still make it in. Just not the day before, because it'll probably be uploading all day that day... |
This is rad! Could I get a list of the fan games that'll be included?

UPDATE:
Today, the 12th, I will begin uploading the BKArchive (yay)! A link should be posted tomorrow (can't give a time 'cause I have no idea how long it will take to upload...). Before downloading the BKArchive (once it's up) make sure to read the README.txt file I will upload along with it. It will help you understand the BKArchive a little bit before using it. EDIT: Here's the README.txt file. |

After some internet issues, I was finally able to upload the BKArchive.

Hello all.
I do continue work on the BKArchive, so don't assume this is dead yet ;)! Anyways, I've come to ask a question: What is better, a more feature rich program, or a smaller program? Right now I'm faced with adding in a program that is large-ish in place of another program that gets by. I've noticed numerous issues with it, and began considering replacing it for good. What do you all think? (1) A more feature rich program that's larger or (2) A smaller, more compact program that is having issues? |
Just for fun, here's the md5 checksum for version 1.0 (I'll put out a sha1 soon...): d0a2674e1ec1ad6e38a6faece6920fd5.
To check the md5 checksum (basically confirm this is legit), download this little utility from here: https://mega.co.nz/#!mtAgiZqa!8F-KBl...0ZJ1U8NjIIg7fk |

My only question is how do 3 lvls equate to 60 MB? |
What about RWP related things? Would they belong in the Rare Archive?
|
Quote:
And there is no Rare archive :P. Right now, the BKArchive is demoing the possibilities of this kind of project. The hope is that it will have it's own site one day... |
Yeah it really should.

I already suspect it will be plagued with problems though. It has to host gigabytes and gigabytes of data... :-/ |
UPDATE:
No new material has flowed into my hands, and I'm afraid to say that the BKArchive's development has grinded to a complete standstill. I've cleaned up a lot, and currently adding a glitch compilation, there just isn't any true reason to hold back a new build. I've been unsuccessful in finding a way to just release patches, so I will continue uploading the self-extracting .exe files (and on that note, if you know how to create patches of directories on windows, please PM me or somethin' :D). Here's my question: Should I release a new build, or hold off 'till the planned mid-April release? |
Hold off I think.
|
NOT-SO-UPDATE:
The BKArchive's second build was planned for today, Thursday April 17th. Due to life being unfair 'n' such, I was unable to finish up a lot of work that needed to be done yesterday, and I've been able to finish up that work I didn't get done today. I'm not 100% sure when the build will actually be pushed out, but you'll get that update as soon as it begins ;). If you haven't gotten the BKArchive yet, or did decided to tax your machine with the gargantuan download, I would recommend this build. It includes a lot of new stuff, including many updated files, programs, and an all new Glitch Stack (which needs some help)! The third build won't surface until the next release of Banjo's Backpack (since it needs one terribly), so get it now and enjoy it's greatness all summer!! :D |
