3DS n64 emulater?

What I was thinking since the 3DS is able to play the legend of zelda ocarina of time, could someone make n64 emulater on an r4 and play banjo kazooie?

Well since no one owns or knows anything about the 3DS yet, you'll just have to wait until it's actually released.

But if I was to guess, I'd say yeah someone will probably find a way.

Depends really.

It might work, but even then, probably only just. Bearing in mind GBA emulation was almost impossible on the previous DS systems, due to ways things are handled, and memory. The 3DS will undoubtedly be more powerful than previous systems, but if GBA emulation isn't accomplished on it at some point, I wouldn't hold out too much for a N64 emulator.

How about: Wait until there is an R4esque card made to begin with, because if I understand correctly, pirating games on the 3DS is going to be a real bitch with its almost constant connection to internet and all.

I love how left field the question is, like really that was the only thought on someones mind the whole time during 3DS announcements, and so expectant of an absolute answer.

It's funny because R4.

Teafed 21st January 2011 08:28 PM

Possibly, but I can't see Nintendo allowing it.

I agree with Bobby, besides most of the game originaly for the n64 are being remade on the 3DS.

Starblazer 22nd January 2011 11:33 PM

Because this thing is powerful enough to run Ocarina of Time (even with that 3D bullshit in full effect) i'd say it's highly likely. Sure, Nintendo's talking about making the 3DS flashcard-proof but i'm not worried. They said the same about the DSi, and whaddaya know, they found a way around it. If they do end up developing an N64 emulator for 3DS, playing Banjo-Kazooie and Megaman 64 on the go might actually be fun.

edit: In response to Smouvy: disable your internet when you plan on using your flash card, and problem solved.

But it wouldn't be as easy as you might think. Unless GBA emulation is accomplished, running smoothly, I strongly doubt N64 emulation would work either. Not saying it can't be done, just don't hold out for it.

Starblazer 22nd January 2011 11:40 PM

They offer GBA and GBC VC titles, so i'm guessing yeah, GBA emulation will be possible on the 3DS.

marshallh 23rd January 2011 03:05 AM

Nope. Whenever the security is cracked and user code is able to run, fast forward a couple years, then finally you might be playing super mario 64 with frameskip and choppy sound.

DK64 3DS!

OoT 3DS & StarFox 3DS = most of the games for the N64?

lawlno.

Alice 23rd January 2011 09:29 PM

The 3DS might be playing a few ports or remakes of N64 games, but they are optimized to run on a 3DS. Emulation is always going to be harder, as the games will not be optimized for 3DS, but rather the Nintendo 64.
