Pokemon Snap 2D

I've been working on a Pokemon Snap game. Like in Pokemon Snap itself, you go around taking pictures of Pokemon. This time however, it's in 2.5D and you can move freely instead of on a rail (because it would be almost impossible if it was.) Here it is:

http://www.yoyogames.com/games/155937-pokemon-snap-2d

There are over 40 species of Pokemon. Some are in plain sight, some either come out or are identifiable by using pester balls, and some evolve.

You have 40 film. Once you run out of film, you will be scored on how many Pokemon you find, rather than pictures being rated.

CONTROLS
Arrow Keys - Move
Enter - Take photo
Spacebar - Throw pester ball

Cool. I remember loving the old Pokemon Snap for the 64. I might try this out.

Your GameMaker skills make me jealous sometimes, you know that, Lemur?

Kab 13th December 2010 04:02 AM

Pretty cool, man. It's very obviously in the working stages, but I liked what I played. Just a suggestion: When Onix comes falling back down, maybe you should make the rocks that fly up brown and not red, as it looks a bit like blood...... Scared me a bit. :P

lemurboy12 13th December 2010 11:27 PM

I added a cave stage, although I should have finished it before uploading. :-/

The Prototype 14th December 2010 12:06 PM

No, whenever a game gets uploaded or updated, it needs to be checked if there's viruses.
EDIT: Wait, what? It's been virus scanning all night! It usually takes a few minutes. Guess I have to reupload it.

The Prototype 14th December 2010 02:08 PM

Their servers may be busy right now

lemurboy12 24th December 2010 03:17 PM

Bump, update. The score screen is much better now. Now Professor Oak is there and tells you how you're doing with your progress. I've also added many more Pokemon, and a new stage. It's called River, but it's way more of a forest than a river...

Are the levels made in the program, or externally?

They're made in the program. They aren't 3D models or anything. They're all just 3D blocks.

Alice 24th December 2010 07:11 PM

Ah well. Still, looks like some great things can be done with that.

lemurboy12 24th December 2010 08:07 PM

Wow, I made a thread about this game today on /vp/ and it has 82 plays.

Starblazer 24th December 2010 10:24 PM

Gameplay video please?

My gawd. It went from version 18 straight up to version 21? What happened to parts 19 and 20? :P

You WILL let me design a level, somehow. ;)

lemurboy12 26th December 2010 07:03 PM

Update: New level, Ruins. Big thanks to Spyke4995 for making it.

lemurboy12 30th December 2010 04:27 PM

Another update.
New level - Ocean, an underwater stage. Don't worry, it's just like all the others. There's also now a save feature.
Also, if you really want to know all the Pokemon found in the game, here's the list.

Spoiler: (highlight to view)

Smouvy 30th December 2010 06:04 PM

The save function was already in the Ruins update, wasn't it?

lemurboy12 6th January 2011 12:48 AM

The treetop stage is now finished, and it currently has the most unique Pokemon.
Also, here's an updated list.

Also, here's more gameplay. Still way out of sync, though.

In spoiler tags for people who haven't played yet.

Spoiler: (highlight to view)
Played version 41.

Got everyone except for:
Typhlosion & Jolteon

Apperently, when I hit Quilava with a pester ball it evolves into Bayleef rather than Typhlosion. Additionally, it somehow takes 3 snapshots away as well like Pikachu does, including the snapshots bouncing away. Also, throwing a pester ball at Pikachu now doesn't make him use his electrical attack anymore, it just makes me lose 3 snaps. Because of that I also cannot get a Jolteon anymore.

I really loved the Ocean level btw :D

The first one I don't know why, but the second one is because the cursor is over Pikachu, and when it gets hit, the thundershock ends. I'll fix that shortly.

By the way, I need help thinking of a reward for finding all Pokemon. I can't think of any.

More pokemon

lemurboy12 9th January 2011 03:23 AM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
IT SAID THE FILE WAS CORRUPTED THEN I TRIED TO REOPEN IT BUT I ACCIDENTALLY HIT SAVE AND THERE WAS NO DATA AND NOW I GOTTA START FROM THE ONLY SAVE I HAVE, WHICH IS WHEN THE RIVER WASN'T EVEN FINISHED.

I am extremely sad and pissed right now. I worked so hard. The game was almost finished. But I accidentally got everything in the entire game deleted. ****. Either I start over or I leave the game as it is.

Articerile 9th January 2011 03:24 AM

I did something like that not so long ago, just before Christmas.
Except I did it all again faster, because I knew exactly how I did everything.

Teafed 9th January 2011 03:25 AM

System restore now

lemurboy12 9th January 2011 03:25 AM

I didn't even get a chance to test Mew. :( The backup file is corrupted too. I hate redoing, but the game just isn't finished enough to be completable. What should I do? I can't restore it.

Articerile 9th January 2011 03:35 AM

You can rebuild it, bigger, stronger, better.
You have the existing game versions to look at for reference for levels.

lemurboy12 9th January 2011 03:43 AM

I hate redoing. I absolutely HATE it. It's fun to do something the first time, but it's not fun in any possible way the second time. It was perfectly fine the way it was. What was there to improve other than glitches?

Articerile 9th January 2011 03:47 AM

Fine, don't redo it.
You asked us what you should do.
I say redo it.
You don't want to redo it.
So abandon the project, it's the only other option, since all the files are corrupted irreversibly.

King Gobi 9th January 2011 10:24 AM

Wow. Just Wow.

lemurboy12 9th January 2011 01:04 PM

Wow what?

Alice 9th January 2011 02:12 PM

I still have the version from when I made the Ruins level.

lemurboy12 9th January 2011 02:25 PM

Aw you know what, screw it. I refuse to redo it. The game is finished enough. Now I gotta think of a new one.

fantanoice 9th January 2011 02:53 PM

Oh wow, looks pretty cool. I'll give it a go next time I'm on my PC. :)
