Also, if you're #10 on the leaderboards for defeating Hag 1, you're overqualified for giving a guide. Don't be lazy. It took me about an hour and dozens of deaths, but I beat her and I could totally give a guide on how to beat that boss.

In boss mode on XBLA, the first Klungo is always the red enlarge potion, the second Klungo is always the green invisibility potion, and the third Klungo is always the blue cloning potion. It is not randomized like it is in adventure mode or the N64 version.

Also, he's tenth in the leaderboards for overall time, not the Hag 1 fight itself, the game only does it overall for the boss times. His Hag 1 time is much longer than ours, which really kills him and if he could improve it he could probably beat my overall time, which I haven't improved upon (even with a few attempts) since summer 2009, proven by the fact that CBM and Weldar are leagues ahead of every single one of my times (except a few ties on the Klungos).

Not to mention since that age-old post he's like 14-20 or something now.

Dan 6th March 2011 06:47 PM

Yeah if i had coolboymans hag 1 time I would be like 4th lol my times outside are killer, I just have a problem with the auto look centering that is on the xbox version, it's not what i grew up on. and hag 1 is elevatred

Ahh, gotcha.

But seriously, people, if you've beaten the Hag 1 even once and you remember how you did it, or even if you watched someone else do it, you're qualified to write a guide on it. Being #10 on the leaderboards means you are OVER qualified, especially when you consider just how many people have played that game.

Dan 9th March 2011 10:00 PM

Not to the intricacy i felt was required.

30-50 feral rats 10th March 2011 10:51 PM

I reckon I should give in my times, since this guide has aided me in reaching my position on the leaderboards.
  • Klungo 1= 00.21.40
  • Klungo 2= 00.16.50
  • Klungo 3= 00.20.00 (I'll definitely have another shot at reducing this, even if only with slight success)
  • Targitzan= 00.42.60 (I feel I can do faster, but I don't plan on coming back to this before the others)
  • Old King Coal= 00.09.90 (Can't seem to reduce this to 8 or so seconds)
  • Mr. Patch= 01.03.50 (This is with the flying strategy, and probably isn't my best with it. Haven't bothered using land method. I'll probably use a mix of both before using land only.)
  • Lord Woo Fak Fak= 01.01.40 (Will not leave this until 55 seconds is reached. I finished with the time I have after taking the boils out in 27 seconds, and done it in 21 seconds before, so... (Also, I may be the only one who enjoys facing this boss, it seems. I love trying against this one for some reason))
  • Terry= 00.38.50
  • Weldar= 01.05.10 (How was 1 min 2 seconds reached? Can't seem to get under 1.05.)
  • Chilly Willy= 00.52.40
  • Chilli Billi= 00.34.90
  • Mingy Jongo= 00.13.80 (I won't leave this till I match CBM's time)
  • Hag 1= 03.12.40 (My recommendation: Jump on top of the drill, even when spinning, to fire eggs at Grunty until the batteries are blown up, (spinning drill doesn't damage you whilst on top, if you're wondering) making sure you use ice eggs. Do it fast enough to get hit only once by a spell when on top each time, and try to avoid all other attacks if you can. (Mortar cannons won't hit you on top, so stay still) Replenish health and eggs to max when the drill spins, and then get back on top for last two times, getting down near the back of Hag 1 to destroy the battery. I would have beaten CBM's time by about 3 seconds if I didn't get nervous towards the end and failed to aim properly. Whole loss of 8 seconds there, due to my failure)
Overall= 10.32.40, putting me in at 3rd out of OVER 9000 people. That makes me more awesome than a pencil! :D ...
... I'll be quiet now.

Esteban Colberto 12th March 2011 12:58 AM

Pencils are really amazing though. If Jesus came down, turned into the hottest woman on Earth with his Jesus powers and sucked my dick, he still wouldn't be as awesome as a pencil.

Jacky Durand 24th March 2011 10:10 AM

Great news for those who wants to improve their Boss times. A guy uploaded his battles and it would be quite an understatement to call those battles great - they're unbelieveable!

Enjoy!

http://www.youtube.com/user/MegaDest...33D2B0518DBBCD

Weldar-Kazooie 24th March 2011 05:47 PM

If I could tie CBM's Hag 1 Time, I'd be 1.5 Seconds away from beating him. Close.

Also, I'm very impressed that someone could beat my Lord Woo Fak Fak time. Well done LabRat!

I know what you mean as well, I believe an ideal time for that boss could be as low as perhaps 53 seconds, but it's oh so difficult to attain! I don't mind the boss either, which is probably why we're the best at it!

Dan 25th March 2011 05:18 AM

I've decided to give these a whirl.

Two new times so far, both dragons

Chilli Billi: 33.70
Chilli Willi: 51.60

edit:
third time to add, mingy jongo 11.40 finally lol

edit again
klungo 1 21.20
hag 1 3:46.20

overall: 11:53.40 13th place. Not bad so far. Going to strive for more.

targitzan 44.40 and never getting any lower, i don't even see how i could have and yet you guys find 10 seconds somewhere.

overall is now 11:50.30 putting me in 12th

edit: lord woo 1.33.20

overall now 11:31.10 (13) putting me in 7th overall on the leaderboards. Starting in 16th that's not bad :P

10:10 on okc is now 9.80 lol puts my overall to 11:30.80 ..woo

maybe i should just my times. I'll do that now

Klungo 1: 21.20. Can get .20 less.
Klungo 2: 16.30 Apparently 10 more can be gotten, but i've failed multiple times.
Klungo 3: 20.10 I can't even replicate this score, and it sucks
Targitzan: 44.40 That's the best I can do, I never missed once, how you guys get 10 seconds less is beyond me.
OKC: 8.80 lol look at that
MR patch: 46.00 Not bad i guess for now
lord woot: 1:33.20 This guys actually fun now, and I could have had 1:12 but my last grenade egg didn't register and i had to restock
terry: 39.50, glitch seems to be patched making this unbeatable for me :(
weldar: 1:05.00 I can do better but it's annoying trying
chilly willy 51.60 1st place
Chilli billi: 33.70 1st place, Dragon dominance once more!
Mingy Jongo: 11.40 1st place, for a very short time probably, but hey thats four 1sts!
hag 1: 3:46.20 ye i finally grinded a somewhat acceptable run of this, expect like another 20 seconds to come off it at some point.

Overall before Tonights reduxes: 12:39.30 17th place
Current overall: 11:17.40 (13) 7th place overall, 10 place advancement

Did you check the videos I linked to? Megadestructor beats Fak Fak in 52:70..

they're remarkably tool assisted and unrealistic to even try for lol. my chilli willi time was REMARKABLE tonight and missed his by 3 seconds (and is still first place for our community). The videos do help though thats for certain.

with Fusirion in 286th, and 14:59.90 (close call much?) thats 286 people now that have 'now who's boss?'

KLUNGO 3 19.70 HOLY SHIT
lord woo: 1:19.90 got owned during the eyes part as usual
21.10 on klungo 1. ruined the 0 1 2 3 4 we had goin there, but dammit almost 1st on every klungo :(

edit: i've done a lot of shaving, I'm 1st on 5 bosses, and within 3 seconds of 1st on like 3 more of them. Lord woo is a good run but could be improved, but not presently, same with patch and targitzan. I just simply can't aim any better than I have, My times are submitted, no more updates and no more tries from me.

There are way to many mistakes in the battles for them to be tool-assisted. I tried his technique on Chilly Willy (pay close attention to the way he shoots eggs) and got a time of 48:30.

there's a far less likely chance he has the fastest time on all 13 bosses, by a dramatic amount, coincidentally offline, and did them all in 1 try as proven by his videos. That being said, he did use some pretty good tricks, but nothing we weren't already doing. Weldar, lord Woo, and patch are the biggest examples of him doing unrealisitc things

What he said.

Simply put, his times are just too good. I'm not jealous or envious of his scores, but they're simply too flawless to be non-tas'd. To not even falter with the aim against Terry, LWFF, or Targitzan is impossible with the Xbox Joystick.

Like Dan said, these tricks he used are all great and very helpful, they're just done too flawlessly to have been legitimate in the videos.

Did you ever see a TAS? A TAS would truly screw up the record times which I don't believe he does. There are nothing unrealistic about either the Weldar or Lord Woo battle - he even takes damage from Woo several times.

I would say his best battles are indeed Targitzan, Patch and HAG 1, because of the extraordinary aiming - but that can be done without tool assistance. And his Patch-time really is something special, but Patch follows a certain pattern in the beginning of the battle meaning his patches will always be in the same spots. That's why he can take out 4 in one go - he knows exactly where to aim. The rest of the battle is pure routine.

And I don't get what you mean by "doing them in one try". His old Weldar-time was 1:01:60, now it's 1:01:50. It's only Terry, Hag 1 and maybe Lord Woo that gets remarkably better, but that makes sense since Terry and Woo are luck-based and for HAG 1 you either win or get killed.

You see at the end of his old king coal videos, his other boss times, all of these were uploaded in the same day, and you can see the other times at the end of the videos, he literally moves from OKC to weldar, to terry (or whatever the order is) and does all 13 of these times in 1 try each going from 14:37 to 8:59. Yeah no.

Well I actually followed his process from the beginning on another forum. He started march 9th and fĂ*nished march 22nd. In 13 days you can really do something. Maybe he uploaded all the videos on the same day, but he recorded them over 13 days (not counting his effort to improve Targitzan before that).

You have to look for the previous time in the videos that pop up in the start of every battle to see what kind of improvement he does. And if you claim it's one try pr. boss then why isn't there a proper intro cutscene in the beginning of every video?

Just to make a slight comparison I used 4 hours the other day to get these times:
- Klungo 1: 21:10
- Klungo 2: 16:20
- Klungo 3: 19:80
- Old King Coal: 7:60
- Patch: 36:60
- Chili Billi: 33:30
- Chilly Willy: 48:30
- Mingy Jongo: 11:30

I'm telling you: no cheating - he just perfected his battles.

Coolboyman 28th March 2011 03:45 PM

Then why can't he sign in and take my spot?

Jacky Durand 28th March 2011 07:13 PM

I don't know - that really isn't my area of expertise. Why would tool-assistance keep him from uploading his time?

In order to have tool assisted runs on the 360 you need a modded xbox. You cannot connect to Xbox live with a modded xbox.

I've put in a lot more than a couple weeks, and coolboyman more than perfected his times and is a full minute behind. There is not a single person that has 9:xx.x0 in the world other than him and BARELY, He just also happens to coincidentally have JUST under 9 minutes which is probably his reason for uploading/doing this. Those times are nice though, you got the 16.20 on klungo 2, i couldn't get that, tied me on 1, and are .10 behind me on 3. Patch is just incredible though and well, all of those times are damn good, but they're not the times we brought up, and they're still not his times lol.

Oh I see - I must admit that sounds suspicious..

Still I don't think his videos are perfect in any way, but well, that might be part of the plan.

Tooie 28th March 2011 08:51 PM

Why don't you people just ask him in a comment if he's using TAS? You could probably be able to tell or not depending on what he says.

Since he wants to put the videos on speeddemosarchive.com. It's kind of self-explanatory what his answer would be.

Still no one on that site complained about his videos, yet.

Dan 29th March 2011 06:28 AM

I confronted him on personal messages on youtube and he claimed that he put 'a lot of effort in, just look at my megaman vids, im obviously a pro'. then goes on to say that i could do it too if i tried and learned the methods; So i was very sure to explain to him that i've been playing these games for 208x as long as him and invented half the methods he's using in his videos. He had no response.

In speedrunning it's not a matter of time used on the game, but the execution.

Which methods was it you invented? Cause I don't see him using any other than Demon Lab Rats technique for HAG 1, which I gave him.

He specifically said he used things like my terry two round method, and wonderwing on mingy that he read from this exact guide.

(Incredibly sorry for the late reply. Been a bit busy recently)

Thanks for that! :D

Yeah, 53 seconds is definitely possible. Just attempted the boss again about half an hour ago and destroyed the boils in 26 seconds, and finished with a record time of 0:55.70! (Total=10:26.70) *Insert face that literally explodes with happiness here*
Bearing in mind that I did the boils in 21-22 seconds before now, 53 seconds is definitely possible, but I'll be 69 by the time I attain it. :-/
Should I aim to get lower than what I got for this boss, or should I focus on another one?

EDIT: Just lowered my Mr Patch enough to get to a point where my total time is exactly 2 seconds more than Weldar-Kazooie's. Not at all certain I can get it as low as Coolboyman's though.
And congrats to Jacky Durand for reaching 5th on the leaderboards!

Jacky Durand 4th April 2011 09:48 AM

Thanks, and congrats with your third as well!

I've been getting back to this again lately after two years of absence. I kind of gave up when I figured, that I never could get any better on HAG 1, but the technique you posted has given me new hope.

But I started with all the other bosses, because I hate HAG 1, and I haven't tried it yet, so my time is still pathetic 4:23-something, and I'm taking a break now after using 5+ hours on Fak Fak the other day for a pretty unsatisfying time of 1:07:60.

So these are the times I have achieved so far with great help from Megadestructor's videos:

Klungo 1: 21:10
Klungo 2: 16:20
Klungo 3: 19:80
Targitzan: 47:30 (I only tried this a couple of times, but I was hungover and all the spinning forced me to quit it :) - gonna get back to it though)
Old King Coal: 7:60
Mr. Patch: 29:80
Lord Woo Fak Fak: 1:07:60
Terry: 34:50
Weldar: 1:01:90
Chilly Willy: 48:30
Chilli Billi: 32:70
Mingy Jongo: 11:30
HAG 1: 4:23:70
Final time: 11:01:80

Thanks! :D

But yeah, I know what you mean about HAG 1. 4 minutes seemed impossible to beat when I started that boss. I'm sure you're more than capable of matching me, though, since Hag 1, Lord Woo Fak Fak and Targitzan are the only bosses where I have quicker times than you.
Took me hours to beat Lord Woo Fak Fak as well, but I enjoy fighting him. Spent longer on him than Mr Patch. (Which, for me, is surprising given my history against Patch when I was younger)
Anyway, hope the time on Fak Fak pays off in the end! :)

Gonna post my times now:

Klungo 0:21.40
Klungo 2 0:16.50
Klungo 3 0:20.00
Targitzan 0:41.70
Old King Coal 0:09.90
Mr Patch 0:37.50
Lord Woo Fak Fak 0:55.70
Terry 0:38.50
Weldar 1:05.10
Chilly Willy 0:51.40
Chilli Billi 0:34.20
Mingy Jongo 0:13.80
HAG 1 3:12.40

Total: 9:58.10
Position: 1st

:rwpunch

PUNCH!

EDIT: Just beat Chilli Billi quicker (Was 34.9 now 34.2), so the list and total above is updatezedfied

Even though he wasn't online, at the moment this was posted, Coolboyman felt a disturbance in the force.

Coolboyman 7th April 2011 07:45 PM

I had trouble sleeping last night... and this was probably it.

Good job. Now I need to start playing this again and get it back.

Yeah, I was shocked too. Started off looking at 1st as an impossible feat to attain and aiming for the top 7 or so, before finally reaching 3rd and then getting to being first in the last two days. Storms are brewing and hurricanes are forming as I type. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy reading your responses. :)
Anyway, my stupid smug face aside, looking forward to challenges from you guys. :D (I do too many faces)
And thanks for the compliments!

I've also gone and reduced my time some more. I'm an annoying little idiot, aren't I?

Klungo 1: 0:21.30
Old King Coal: 0:08.20
New Total= 9:56.30
I now have more than a 3 second lead over CBM's total!
*Cue eerie screams coming from CBM's Galactic Fortress*

7th) 11:43.50 - Tooie

If we ever get real evidence MD9 used TAS, then I'll remove him from the leaderboards entirely, because that's just cheating. But to be honest in my opinion the fact that no one can replicate most of his scores, evidencing how hard we're trying and we're using the exact same methods, is evidence enough... I'll let you guys decide if he should stay on the leaderboard.

Dan had an update for Klungo 1, Klungo 3, and Lord Woo but didn't update his total, so because of his laziness I can't update his total (I updated the individual times, though), because I would most assuredly mess up the math. Well, since he's taking control of the leaderboards now, I guess he can fix it himself. :P

I'm amused how I'm last at everything except the Klungos, Weldar, and Hag 1. That makes sense, since I haven't touched it in about 20 months and you guys are still actively improving your scores...

One last thing, let me just say, this was a. BITCH. To update. Procrastination hurts. It's all yours from now on, Dan. ;)

yea yeah yeah we'll see who's boss.
