You missed AFD 2006. Fake accounts created and sabotaging a month or so ahead of time. A fake forum, "exposed" by a "hacker." That, and more, I didn't really follow it too much, but it would be hard to top. Additionally, the front page joke was completely unrelated to the rest of the forum joke. Several people were involved with the forum joke, and the whole forum was turned completely sideways, with "exploits" and the loss of control from admins, or something along that line. Like I said, I'm not clear on everything, I wasn't an active forum member, but it was basically all of that, only worse, because it was very believable to those not involved.

You talk like it was a terrible, terrible thing.

As I understand, for the people who fell for it, it was.

EDIT: Regardless of how the people perceived it, it was incredibly elaborate, planned out far ahead of time, and the seeds were planted on the forum before anyone would have previously expected them. It is very likely that topping that would be difficult, because as you may have seen, several people were suspicious of an AFJ in very early March. Last year's joke certainly has had that effect on the users here. Is it really coincidence that this find, with several holes and flaws could be found this close to AFD? Doesn't it seem like CBM has been hiding most of his methods, so that what he has done cannot be reproduced with what he's told us? Remember how a savestate works, that it will reproduce the modified rom's data up to the point that the user's unmodified rom loads new data. Given this, it seems like it would be very easy to insert an image into the game, savestate, and then pass it off as the real thing, telling people that shaky memory was the reason the game froze. This certainly does arouse suspicion in me, especially since we have someone that knows his way around N64 and Banjo coding, and he basically calls it out as a fake from things he'd noticed. That was the straw where I decided not to go along, and call out a method that this would all be possible through. To me, it is fake, and I'm sticking around to see how accurate my guesses were.

from what i'm hearing, its sounding EXACTLY like the porn scandalist that corrupted the 2nd version of the forums years back (2002?).. then there was no RWP for half a year after that. Plust for some reason my account was screwy or something but i had nothing to do with it. HONEST. i know it LOOKS like i was the one corrupting things here, but I really wasn't... at all.. period. dont even think this sounds suspicious. i can't believe i brought it up again!:o dangit! well forget about it like everyone should have by now. no big deal...

/rambling

Edit: SOOoo sorry this is completely irrelevant to the topic, but after 1000 posts i'm guessing it doesn't matter soon anyway...

just because rare acknowledeged the eggs doesnt mean its true, one rare person could have just rocked up here and said ' hey lets provoke the joke further'
despite all this im going to give CBM the benifit of the doubt... just i wont be too suprised if it does turn out to be a AFJ

Hey! I'm back from forever ago, and none of you probably remember me, because I can't hack to save my life. But this new news is very interesting, and has made me want to come back to rare witch project. First of all, Coolboyman, thank you for all of your time you put into this. I say this because if these new discoveries are real, then we have some crazy new things we need to find out! Also, if this is an AFJ (which I don't think it is, call me an optimist), then you did a really good job convincing me. Plus, it would be fun if it was an AFK, for eveyone loves a good joke once in a while.

I just read the retro gamers magazine, and appearantly, we told a real rare member off a while ago. Do we really want to make the same mistake again? Either way, Coolboyman obviously knows a lot about hacking, so he does have the ability to hack further into the game even if these discoveries are fake.

PS: congrats Coolboyman for making it into the Jet-pack game

Actually, he was treated respectfully. Unless he registered under multiple names, something other than Ghouly Boy (as Sub mentioned in he RetroGamer Thread).

Besides most of us just said we're skeptical, unlike certain members who are making such a huge deal of it.

A lot of people are making a big deal out of it. I was trying to say that in my other post.

Oh, I'm sorry. I really don't know exactly what happened with that rare member. I wasn't active at that time! I was only going by what the magazine said. Sorry to offend anyone.

Anyway, I got my N64 hooked up again, and I found my gameshark. If anyone would like to send me some freeze digits, I'll try my best to get them to work... although I'm not very knowlagable about hacking with the gameshark. Glad to do anything to help!
