Rare confirmed in the Retro Gamer Magazine that Fungi Forest is Fungus Forest if I'm not mistaken. Clanker was just originally in the old Fungus Forest.

...that's a very interesting theory, Chaos! I never really examined that, but after I searched YouTube, and saw the picture in a new light, I finally noticed Clanker's uncharacteristically smooth skin...also, the fact that the CCW Puzzle area is rather mossy in comparison to the level.

How interesting...

I find the video interesting, the "Fungus Forest" resembles Clankers Cavern a bit too much, but I would just be repeating what has been said. Also, if my memory serves me correctly, wasn't there a door in Fungi Forest that you couldn't access? Not saying it has to do with B-K but still, something I thought I'd mention.
Holy crap, in that video at the very end while underwater, you can hear the EXACT Fungus Forest theme playing. Listen.

This whole theory [possibly has been confirmed?] is entirely new to me, so I'm really glad that it was brought to the forefront; I had no idea!

clankers cavern could still have been called clankers cavern(as in there was fungus forest, and part of it was CC), but maybe they came up with the name clanker after he became metal? i mean, clanker sounds like a name for a metal-y character, not a flesh and bone shark...

and those mumbo guys were the original baddies of mumbo's mountain, or so i've heard

But notice that Banjo and Kazooie are underwater? And there's no aquatic variation of the theme? (from what it sounds like)

In this video, you can hear what appears to be FF's theme in "Mt. Fire Eyes" not picked up by me though.

I couldn't hear enough music to tell what it was...the monologue was too frequent.

I dunno, it's really hard to tell because that guy's voice is so loud.

I'm pretty sure this level was still based around "Clanker" the fleshy shark. Unless the level name was going to be Clanker's Forest I can still doubt it's related to fungus forest just because of some music coincidence.

no, i mean the flesh and blood clanker might have gone by a different name, and they changed his name(and level) to clanker afterwards to suit his new metal appearance...

he might have been called blippy(just making up a random anme on the spot), so it was blippy's cavern in fungus forest, till they changed it, and now its clankers cavern

but maybe clankers cavern was always it own level, and not part of fungus forest...

You're Appreciated! Random Award
Also in Fungus Forest in DK64, it had that talking carrot and flesh eating tomatoes. Inanimate objects with eyes are more of a Banjo thing.

It could be cauldrons cavern for anyone knows. Clanker's cavern is already big enough, and embedding that inside a forest level seems a little odd to me. We don't have any definite proof that it was part of Fungus Forest.

I just thought of something that might've been true in early development.

Let's assume Fungi Forest was just an exact copy of Fungus Forest...so the size of the level remained the same. This would basically mean the level would play like a Banjo-Tooie level...as its levels were humongous as well.

Now, going back to the "well" theory. I've suggested that took you to Clanker (or whatever his name was then) and the sewers and stuff. Now the question is, how do you get back up? I've thought of two possibilities:

A.) Water blows out of Clanker's blowhole and you can launch into the ceiling and out the well.

or

B.) You can't get back up...but rather there is a DIFFERENT level exit upon entering the sewers.

Let's assume it's B. How would this work? First off, let's just assume that notes stay permanent throughout levels a la Banjo-Tooie, that way you can't miss some above ground and be screwed for the rest of the level.

In Grunty's Lair, the entrance to Clanker's Cavern is above a much larger pipe that leads to a transport cauldron. Could it be possible that originally Fungus Forest was accessible via the top pipe, and that the bottom pipe was simply an exit for the underground part? It makes sense, because there IS a blocked off grating near the cauldron room. Perhaps this would've opened up as you left the underground part of Fungus Forest, and then close so that it would prevent you from skipping to that area?

Because if you think about it, none of the cauldrons have their own room. The bottom pipe is an empty room with a cauldron in it...nothing special. All of the other cauldrons were connected to a much larger area...but this one isn't.

Now, wasn't Click Clock Wood added very late into development? Why is it such a coincidence that the CCW portrait is VERY out of place, it contains no moss but the portrait room does...AND that the cauldron in the bottom pipe TRANSPORTS you to the CCW entrance? Do you see where I'm going with this?

It seems all of these things fit together perfectly. When the unneeded exit for the sewers of Fungus Forest was left out, the room was useless. So instead of taking the time to remove the pipe, Rare simply changed FF's portrait to CCW's portrait, and added a cauldron (where the sewer exit would be) that would lead to the CCW entrance.

Thoughts?

Also, I'd like to point out that the cauldron room has a little bit of moss in it as well.
