The Switch Rootily-Toot 2!!!

It's funny, I'm pretty sure they called it the Switch 2 because of the Wii U! "Switch 2" communicates right away that this is the next Switch, a separate thing, not an add-on for the original Switch, which is what initially sank the Wii U. Plus it's what PlayStation has done since the very beginning and it seems to be working for them. I wish they'd gone with a more creative name too (I was hoping for Super Switch, personally), but I get their reasoning.

But forget all that, the real question is, what the frick did they do to my boy Donkey Kong?!

I heard it's a way to make DK look retro. The other characters have a retro look about them, too, but DK's is a starker contrast since he's kinda looked the same since Country.

Real talk? I actually love DK's pre-Country look.



The image that's being passed around everywhere looks pretty bad, but he's much more expressive in motion. He looks a lot like his movie design, which I also liked. It's a perfect blend of old and new!



(I hope they take the opportunity to bring DK Jr. back in a big way. I've always had a soft spot for him and I'd love to see him alongside Diddy and the rest of the Country gang.)

I like the old arcade look of classic Donkey Kong. That's not the problem. The problems are A) he's obviously designed to resemble DK from that stupid Mario movie, which I don't like because they should have never changed his design for the movie in the FIRST PLACE, so they're just doubling down on a previous mistake, and B) even if DK's design ISN'T from the movie and it is just supposed to be the classic look......Hello!? Has everyone forgotten? Modern DK WASN'T the original Donkey Kong! That was Cranky Kong! Why is DK being redesigned to resemble "his old look"? It was never his look! That's what young Cranky Kong is supposed to look like, not his modern grandchild.

They should get rid of that stupid "Cranky is the original DK!" thing once and for all.

Yeah, I said it. Leigh Loveday is a cool guy who made all our lives better, but that wasn't one of his better ideas and I don't blame Miyamoto for wanting to wallpaper over it. DK, DK Jr. and Cranky all work much better as distinct characters, and that lets us avoid awkward questions like why "DK" aged if Mario didn't.

No one wants to think about gorilla lifespans.
